Gusts of up to 45 miles an hour knocked out power in four different neighborhoods around Lane County, including South Eugene, where this tree fell across power lines and into a nearby house. The storm probably hit Salem harder than any other city in the state. Electricity was cut off to thousands of Marion County residents during midnight wind gusts that reached 60 miles an hour. Similar wind problems had power crews working overtime in Portland. Thousands of homeowners in the northeast and southwest sections of the Rose City had to do without electricity for up to four hours. No injuries were reported anywhere in the state as a result of the heavy winds. Western Oregon's big blow came on the heels of weekend rains that dumped four inches of the wet stuff on most of the Eugene Springfield area. The rain had most local rivers at full bank or above with the Siouxsla near Mapleton passed flood stage until early this morning. The South Fork of the Coquille in Coos County is currently the only river in our region which remains above flood stage, and Coos officials say it could remain in a flood mode for several days. Latest reports from the Weather Service indicate that most Lane County area rivers will experience minor rises over the next 24 to 48 hours, but authorities don't expect any more heavy rain during that period. For a full update on what to expect in the way of rain and flood watches over next couple of days. Let's go back to the studio and John Fisher. Well, skiing powder doesn't have to be a struggle. Here are a few hints that should help you enjoy what many call the ultimate ski experience. Well, number one thing in skiing powder, don't lean back. I'm sure you've heard a lot people tell you to lean back, but most people aren't leaning far forward enough in the first place. When you're skiing powder, just stand right centered on top of your skis. Number two, keep your weight evenly spread between both skis. Otherwise, one will dig in and slow down while the other takes off, leaving its partner behind. And finally, try to ski terrain that's a little steeper than you ski on the pack fronts. The deep snow will slow you down and provide a soft landing spot just in case you fall.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71234/file/157186#t=2696.84,2744.7"}]},{"id":"https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71234/file/157186/transcript/88614","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["English [Transcript]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71234/file/157186/transcript/88614/annotation/110","type":"Annotation","motivation":"subtitling","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"https://d9jk7wjtjpu5g.cloudfront.net/file_transcripts/associated_files/000/088/614/original/trint_Coll427_1269_transcript.vtt?1768250360","format":"text/vtt","language":"en"},"target":"https://d9jk7wjtjpu5g.cloudfront.net/file_transcripts/associated_files/000/088/614/original/trint_Coll427_1269_transcript.vtt?1768250360"}]}]}]}
