But all eyes were on one fireman, high atop a ladder as it inched toward the window. Below, paramedics worked on a woman who couldn't wait, who had climbed out the window, hung from the glass on the sill, and then dropped six floors. She was badly injured. The ladder reached the window... Some were burned. One woman was pregnant. She needed oxygen because of the smoke. More fire engines arrived, five alarms in all. Blame pointed toward an electrical closet, an electrical explosion, but Blame wasn't on anyone's mind yet. The firefighters kept climbing stairs as far as their air tanks would take them looking for survivors. Two men were clearly visible in the back of the building but no one could get to them. The ladder truck rescuing people from the side window blocked the driveway, so no truck could reach the window in back. A fireman did reach them from the inside, but it turned out that the limp man was already dead. Cradled in the arms of the other man who had tried to make a rescue despite his own painful burns. Over and over, the paramedics raced for the victims. Over andover, they carried out the dead. But there was one rescue in particular beyond all the other rescues they made this morning that can stand out in their minds as a victory. A patient was believed dead, but somewhere... Someone refused to give up and started the man's heart again.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71282/file/157234#t=186.3,288.72
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71282/file/157234/transcript/88654/annotation/11
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71282/file/157234#t=370.15,371.07
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71282/file/157234/transcript/88654/annotation/12
Speaker 10: I think it's a good budget.
