And now Treene hears talk out of Eugene City Hall about a special tax on amusement games. He already pays $50 a year per machine to the state and a $2,000 a year city license. He's looking for several outside sources of funds to give the Center a regular infusion of operating money. One idea is already on its way. Adding another quarter to the 25 cents theater goers already pay as a tax on all tickets to the halt. Another idea is creating a new 1% sales tax for all meals eaten in Eugene restaurants. Well, decided to go into my summer look. Thanks for the great weather, Dave. But there are some higher fruit and vegetable prices that are going to cloud up the horizon. Let's take a look. Over in the vegetable department, it's Memorial Day weekend. If you're going to be making some salads, potato salad. Well, red and white potatoes, $0.29 to $0 49 a pound. Celery, very high right now, $69, $79 a pound, that runs about $1 a stock. That's pretty high prices. And lettuce for any kinds of salads and spinach, all very high. Lettuce is about 89 cents a head and all your leaf items are running about a dollar. If it seems to you that you're paying more for fruit and vegetable prices this time of year than you did a year ago, you're right. The main reason behind this is we're still suffering the repercussions from the bad, wet California spring. Also, this really hot weather in May that we've had locally has done some damage to the local lettuce crop, has caused it to bolt and slime. So that's why you're seeing some higher prices, particularly on leafy greens. Best buys this week, the vegetable department, Carrots, four pounds for a dollar. Zucchini's down, peppers are down, asparagus out of Washington, 69 to 79 cents a pound, very good values. Over in the fruit department, I'm not going to bore you about apples and citrus, I will tell you that the Mexican melons and California strawberries are excellent right now. What a nice combination, a beautiful breakfast treat, take a melon and some berries, put them together, wonderful treat. Bananas, still very high, 59 cents a pounds, you might want to watch that. Best Buy this week. Haas Avocados is the lowest 39 cents a piece, wonderful buttery avocados, a sure bet for this weekend. Have a good, safe holiday. For Eyewitness News, I'm Terry Potassian.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70555/file/156501#t=2242.2,2335.78
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70555/file/156501/transcript/86706/annotation/74
Speaker 33: What am I doing? Cleaning my fly line. You know, it's hard to justify to your wife about going out and paying $35 for a new piece of string for your fly rod. So you better take care of the one you got. You know if you notice the old stick hadn't been casting quite as far as it was back early in the spring, maybe you need to clean your fly line, they do need cleaning. You know, whenever you're out fishing this time of the year and the blooms all on the trees, the pollen falls in the water and gets right on the surface of the fly line, makes it a little bit sticky. So if you can't quite get that cast, maybe you ought to clean your line. It's really easy to do. You need two dry cloths. One you put a little bit of liquid detergent on it right in the spot where you're going to pinch the line with it and the other one you use to take the detergent off. Yeah, I know they say don't put any soap on your fly lines. Well, I've got some I've been soaping for 10 years. Maybe It'll only last 20 years instead of 24 years, but it doesn't make any difference. If you've got a line, it won't stand a little soap to get the dirt off of it. Maybe you got the wrong kind of line. Clean them off get them all slicked up you might even find out that old rod shoots a little better how about the old list of where we're going to go this weekend let's get it out and take a look coca knee fishing supposed to be great in Odell i guess the word's out about how good the fishing's been up there the fish are in shallow water they're easy to get to with trolling spinners and a multitude of different kinds of bait Striper fishing, the stripers have been biting a little bit but right now they're in the middle of the spawn. There's a lot of fish around. I've heard about a lot small fish being caught. That means maybe that striper fishery is coming back. The shad, shad fishing is not going to be much good this weekend. Although the shad are coming, there's going to a lot high water in the Yom Kwa this weekend, they're a little tough to get to. The opening of the high lakes last weekend was phenomenal. We got three day shot at them this weekend so you might get out there and give all those high lakes a try. Get out there and hook a big one now that you've got your equipment all cleaned up, keep your tip up.
