Including continuation of pension rights and so forth. Are otherwise protection of individual employees against the worsening of their positions with respect to their employment. Assurance of employment to persons employed with a mass transit system acquired and priority of reemployment to persons previously employed. Now, what I stated earlier, when the mass transit district, Lane County Transit District took over these city bus lines, and six of these seven people were then employed, they had only one of them. Has had an accident. The others have not had a traffic citation, have not had an accidental preventable or non-preventable with a bus on their private car or anything else. So they very definitely have violated the law. These people have, their positions have been worsened. They're aged, some of them are crippled, some of the are blind. To be exposed to political science, creative arts, or great ideas. Such an attitude is self-defeating both from the long-range viewpoint of the value of the educational dollars expended and from the short-range impact aspect of the education costs involved. It is the short term with which we must be particularly concerned today as LCC approaches the voters for the fourth time. Now seeking merely to retain the level of operation, level of tax support. Which has been in effect the past two years. Some taxpayers mistakenly believe it would save tax dollars if LCC would replace the comprehensive community college concept with complete concentration on vocational technical skills. LCC will again ask for approval of its budget, which has been reduced from over 8 million to 6.2 million since last spring. To live within this budget necessitates reductions in all aspects of our institutional operations. For the first time, we are unable to assure students an open door at LCC. Classes will be enlarged, programs will be curtailed, curriculum development has been eliminated and maintenance and custodial services are being cut to dangerously low levels.
