Let's look over at the fruit first. Out of Mexico and California, we're getting some nice melons, cantaloupes and honeydews. Price is a little high, about 79 to 89 cents a pound. They will be coming down. You can see though, beautiful quality, nice meat, very good flavor for melons right now this time of the year. Bargains this week in the Fruit Department. Still, oranges and grapefruit, citrus, end of the season, but still very good, Very good prices for end of the season. Let's swing over now and look over at the vegetable market. Now, head lettuce has been a good buy. It's going up in price. They've had some bad weather down in California. Not much weight. You might look at a leaf lettuce, red leaf or romaine, as an alternative. Cucumbers, on the other hand, and other salad greens, are very good buy, as low as three or four for a dollar. Celery, high-priced item this week. Doubled in price because there's a shortage right now. It's kind of between seasons for celery. Celery goes to seed this month down in Califonia. Good news for tomato lovers. We're starting to get some California tomatoes now. 60 to 70 cents a pound, a lot more flavor than the Mexicans or the Florida's, much better quality. Back to artichokes, by the way, they have erected a statue of me in Castroville, and artichoke are a very good buy right now, as low as four for a dollar, excellent quality. Look for nice tight-closed buds, you'll get a nice big heart with a nice broad artichok. Also, Hass avocados, another item that have been very expensive, very cheap this year, three or four for $1. And finally, California strawberries coming in, still very good, 60, 70 cents basket. You might want to get some limes if you can afford them for $2 a pound, but all in all it's a real good week and better things are ahead. For Eyewitness News, I'm Terrance Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70290/file/156234#t=1460.51,1558.44
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70290/file/156234/transcript/86310/annotation/65
Speaker 11: To be or not to be? Local fire officials had a pre-fire plan for the plant. That plan told them that acetone, a chemical that's highly toxic when ignited, and a plastic called PCV were burning inside. It now appears there was no acetone in the plant when it caught fire, but officials didn't know that when they started talking about evacuation. Eventually, about 100 families left their homes, most of them staying with friends. Burned all through the night. Hazardous conditions persisted for most of the evening. Finally, by around 11 o'clock, the evacuated families began to come back home. This morning, only a few flames remained among the smoldering ruins. There's no estimate of the damage to the plant yet. DG Shelter officials flew in this morning to make that appraisal. But the economic damage to Harrisburg may be felt before long. 115 workers are at least temporarily out of a job. Even though they say the danger has passed The Harrisburg Fire Department will keep its vigil by the plant through tonight. Officials say the plant managers were always very cooperative with fire prevention measures, but because of the chemicals that were stored here, some thought that a serious fire was just a matter of time.
