We've also confirmed the company will require drug screening tests and physical exams for the finalists. Bohemia is already using the drug test at its Vaughan mill. One thing for sure is that many of those who do get hired here will be making much less than they did on their last mill job. Simply stated, those are the facts of life these days on the employment lines in Oregon. At one time, the drain mill paid over $10 an hour, even though it was non-union. There are as yet no laws forcing chemical companies in the case of dimelin, the uniroyal company, to disclose how they make their products. Manufacturers often claim they don't want their competitors to get that information. Wagner says the toxicology team did not consider looking for dioxin until Russ' disclosure yesterday. Based on what he already knows about the structure of dimelin, Dr. Wagner says he doubts that harmful dioxins are present in dimelins. I'm wearing a lot of green today. It's like my apron looks so delicious, I'm probably going to eat it after the show. There are a lot good values in the produce market this week. In the green section, salad greens. Lettuce, spinach coming out of California right now. Very reasonably priced, about $0.49 ahead. Green onions, about 29 to 39 cents, very nice. So it's a good week for a salad. Other green values, green grapes out of chili, running about $2 a pound, but excellent quality. Now there are some expensive green stuff right now. Asparagus out of the Imperial Valley, running about two dollars a pound, but excellent large asparagus right now, green peppers running about a dollar and a half a pound. Very high priced. Green cucumbers out of Mexico and Texas running about fifty cents a piece and green broccoli. Last week it was a value, this week broccoli supplies are short, it's running about one dollar a pound over in the fruit department there are some good green buys. Haas Avocados, about 40 to 50 cents a piece. Green Newtown and Granny Smith Apples running 40 to 60 cents a piece, but the best buys in the fruit department this week are in the citrus section. Oranges and grapefruit out of Texas, California and Florida all very reasonably priced. Also California strawberries coming on, qualities continue to improve and prices continue to decline. Hospital officials say Denita's foster mother and her doctor were with the little girl when she passed away shortly before 1030. A hospital spokeswoman indicates the child's death was caused by an infection, kidney failure, and complications from her liver surgery. However, she points out the liver was functioning properly at the time of death. Danita had her first liver transplant earlier this month, but the organ, which was donated by the family of a Springfield girl, was apparently damaged before the transplant and later failed. 12 days ago, Danita received her second transplant, and doctors decided last Wednesday to connect the child to a kidney dialysis machine. However, the child's condition took a turn for the worse. And Sunday night, doctors put her on the very critical list, a condition that remained unchanged until her death this morning. Donita was awarded the state of Oregon. She was cared for by her great aunt, Mary McDermott, who acted as her foster mother. Donita suffered from biliary atresia, which meant her liver had no bile ducts to drain toxins. Her foster mother had asked the state to pay for a liver transplant. At first, the Oregon Children's Services Division refused, claiming the operation was too experimental. The agency later relented and budgeted $150,000 for the operation. It was this case that captured the public's attention. In her short life of two years, the little girl from Eugene managed to capture their hearts as well.
