It's a decision that will affect 600 loggers and mill workers in Lynn County. According to Willamette Industries officials... The new drug policy will require urine testing of workers who look like they may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on the job. According to IWA leaders, Willamette officials have refused to meet with them on the issue over the past several weeks. Buying a waiver protects you from liability if you are in an accident, with certain exceptions. On January 1, Hertz instituted a policy that is likely to induce more of its customers to buy the waivers. Under that policy, the customer, not Hertz, is responsible if the car is stolen or vandalized, unless the customer buys the waiver. Hertz says the new policy is necessary because of the increase in theft and vandalism. The Hertz Corporation in New York refused to allow interviews with its management personnel in Portland and would not provide figures to document an increase in rental car theft. Unlike Hertz, other major rental car companies generally absorb the cost of theft and vandalisms, although some are considering changing policy. One that is not is national car rental. A corporate spokesman for National says Hertz's new policy is a tactic to intimidate customers into buying the waivers.
