We're trying just to make the car get out of the flow traffic to a place where, one, you can tell from a relatively long distance away that the hitchhiker is hitchhiking, it's... You can see the sign, you can see him, there's an area for the car to pull out or pull out of the traffic and then it gives him enough time or enough area to see around him so that he can pull back into traffic a little safer at his own discretion. It's still a voluntary system and we're just, the idea if it works or we hope it'll work is that the motorist seeing the sign will realize that the hitchhiker doesn't want to ride without him having to stick his thumb out, without him getting off the curb. Now, in and over the intervening years, it fluctuated, but in 1971, they amounted to 98,452. Now, that's a five-year period. And I'm not sure that we can operate on the assumption that that historical trend is going to stop. And that a geometric expansion in demand for the airport and its facilities is going to occur. While I am not satisfied we can assume the increased usage will occur, I am not about to say that it definitely will not occur, and it seems to me that to adopt the master plan in many instances is to protect the airport environment so that if the development does occur that the airport can be expanded or modified in ways that will let it satisfactorily handle a transit. To not deal with that would be to place ourselves in the situation that the old West Eugene Air Park was in where development occurred around it and as such the airport ceased to exist. And I think you can argue from that point of view that even if there is no expansion of the of the demand or need for the airport that it is still desirable to install the the protective devices in terms of zoning and planning so that the airport is not encroached upon and the other factors can be added as they are needed.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/69275/file/155684#t=2045.42,2145.18
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/69275/file/155684/transcript/79677/annotation/34
Speaker 20: I'm surprised that the Supreme Court took such an affirmative action at this time, but I'm feeling like the decision was about 50 years overdue, because women historically have risked their lives and their health in order to obtain abortions, because they've seen them as a necessary backup for contraceptive failure.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/69275/file/155684#t=2170.78,2188.24
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/69275/file/155684/transcript/79677/annotation/35
Speaker 21: Do you see the move by the Supreme Court as an effective means for whatever you wanted to do with the abortion situation?
