And our biggest dilemma now is what are we gonna do this weekend? You know, it's not whether the fishing's gonna be good, it's just where to go. One of the things that's gonna be happening this weekend is a shader running. I've heard a couple of good reports about the shad running. Now I've showed you this before, but I'm gonna show it to you again to make sure that you know how to rig up for shad. All you have to do is put your three-way swivel on your line, about an ounce or two of sinker down below it, 18 inches a liter, and one of these little crappie jigs right here, and you can just drop that right down in behind the boat and just start backing it down the river. You'll wind up with a sack full of shad before long. They're really in the river right now, so get out there and catch a couple of them. Now, what to do this weekend? Just let me read off of my list here a little bit of what I think will be good this weekend. Besides the shad fishing in the Umqua, the stripers have showed up in the lower Umqua a little bit. There's gonna be some good fishing down there, surface plugging. The summer steel head. They're in several of the coast streams. The McKenzie's got some summer steel head in it. I've heard about some fish between glide and whistler's been on the Umquaw this weekend. Crappie fishing's good everywhere. The waters begin to warm up, the crappies have moved to shallow water to spun, and you can catch them on a little jig just like this one you fish for shad with. Trout fishing and wickiup's been phenomenal. I've been catching a lot of coconut on the surface up there, just trolling a little spinner or spoon of some kind. Crane Prairie, I've heard about some fishing reports up there of five and six pound multiple trout in a bag limit up there. The trouble with train period they're having right now is catching fish under 12 to put in your bag limit. Odell Lake, same deal. Kocaneer just, if you can find the school up there, they're just thick. You get out there and troll in them, you're gonna have trouble catching fish under 12, so you can have a limit of 10 fish. Springshinooker coming up the Willamette system, they're going up the Santa M. They're I haven't caught one yet, but I understand they're coming and they should be here. They've been coming over the falls at Oregon City, 100 fish a day. So you might try that. You might get a summer steel head while you're fishing in the McKenzie or the Willamette too. Bottom fishing at Newport's been good. There's just a multitude of things you could do this weekend. The ice is off of Diamond Lake. You might want to go down there and try catching some trout. But the very best piece of advice I can give you for this weekend is driving to and from. Be careful. Absolutely don't drink and drive. Not only will you spoil your weekend, but you might spoil somebody else's forever. This is Terry Coleman for Eyewitness Sports.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70765/file/156714#t=120.11,263.06
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70765/file/156714/transcript/87470/annotation/10
Speaker 11: One of the sticking points in Rajneesh Param's comprehensive plan is that it includes some farming or resource land within its urban growth boundary. Last week we talked about the California fruit starting to come on. This week we're going to show you a lot of this fruit, tell you what kind of prices you can expect to pay. Red beauty plums, pure letting seedless scrapes, bing cherries, red haven peaches, just some of the tree fruit now, starting very good prices now as they've started to come down 59 to 99 cents a pound, depending on size and quality. Also out of California, cantaloupes, honeydews, and Valencia oranges. Very good melons right now, and the oranges are starting to get better. Another thing from California, this is getting redundant, California strawberries. They're in the middle of their season. Our strawberry season about a week or so away, depending on the weather. What we'd like to get is some nice warm days like we had over the weekend. Produce, vegetables. We are getting some nice local vegetables now. Good week for a salad, red leaf, green leaf, romaine, butter, lettuce, spinach, green onions, radishes, all coming in locally. Very good quality, very reasonable prices. Asparagus, local asparagus, just about over. If we get some warm weather, which will be good for the local strawberries, it will be bad for the local asparagus. It'll make it bolt. So asparagus is still on the market as low as 59 to 79 cents a pound. New item, best new item out of California, California tomatoes. The reasonably priced, as high as 99 cents a pound for the larger tomatoes, but they actually smell and look, and better yet, they taste like a tomato. So good California tomatoes. Finally, there's a little local herb farm in Crestwell called Sweetwater Nursery. They grow sweet basil among other things. And we've taken some fresh sweet basil and you take it and you mix it with some cheese and some garlic, it's parmesan cheese, and you end up with some fresh pesto sauce. Not pesto, but pesto, P-E-S-T-O. And I've got a recipe here for it and you can pick it up at any local gourmet store or supermarket. Also the Joia Cooking has a very good recipe for pesto. It's excellent on fresh pasta, but sweet basil is in season right now and if you've never tried any fresh pesto sauce, it's really wonderful. It's a nice alternative to a heavy tomato sauce. We get some warm weather. So try some pesto sauce, eat some California fruits and some local vegetables. For eyewitness news, I'm Terry Potassium. In this kind of race, one balloon is the hare, in this case the PSA balloon. It takes off 15 minutes before the rest of the balloons, which are the hounds. The hare flies until all hounds are launched. It then tries to outmaneuver the rest of the balloons. We were riding aboard a balloon called Morning Sickness, piloted by Spencer Etzel of Salem. We climbed to 1900 feet, staying even with the PSA balloon. A control panel on board tells the pilot his altitude, balloon temperature, and the amount of time left in his fuel tanks. On this trip, we had 30 gallons of propane, good for about three hours. The balloon's elevation is controlled by adjusting the temperature of the air inside the balloon.
