It's a battle between the Forest Service and environmentalists has played out its course. Today came what the Forest service called a final decision. The oxenlaced herbicides will be sprayed in parts of the Willamette National Forest starting this week. That despite objections from the public, fearful of health risks. But public pressure did have its effects. The spraying program has been cut back by more than half. Safeguards have been stepped up. No spraying will be done at Sweet Home. And at Oak Ridge, the program has been cutback dramatically. The city of Oak Ridge has been a focal point for the anti-urbicide battle and the reaction to today's decision was strong and immediate.
