Difficulties notwithstanding, the first phase of development is up, and the bubbly, well, the elderberry punch anyhow is flowing. Now you can have your own little Shangri-La, a refuge from the economic tempest which batters those around you. All you need is $195,000, plus any custom work you want done. For that, you get a two and a half bedroom castle with snazzy cabinets and appliances, carpeting, oak and trim, big bay windows, a sunken jacuzzi, and a hard to beat view. All of that and a blue roof too, with a 20 year guarantee. Of course, if money is an object, you may elect one of these $160,000 condos or perhaps one for $66,000, one bedroom. It was about, I'd say, six foot eight, something like that, you know? And it was half bull, half man, and its skin was blue, had violets growing out of its eyelids and poppies growing out its toenails, and it just stood there for the whole mass. I mean, I could not make that creature disappear. You know, I thought, oh, well, you now, I'm just seeing this, because I'm bored, you know, clubbing. Could not make that creature go away. I didn't talk with people about it because they'd think I was weird, but I felt that this creature was somehow coming to comfort me. That somehow he was appearing to say, well, you may feel low and you might not be able to create a play right now, but look what can come to you on Christmas Eve. Hang on, old friend. I've had two or three calls here lately. People ask me how to buy one fly rod. They're going to just get started fly fishing, go buy one rod. I've got two or 3 suggestions for that. You've got to be prepared to answer two or three questions as soon as you go in to buy a rod. One is how much money you got to spend. Two, what caliber of fisherman you are. And three, where you're going to be fishing. Now I'm holding in my hand four different kinds of rods. I'm holdin' a graphite rod, a boron rod, a bamboo rod, and a fiberglass rod. These rods range in price from 35 to $650. So you can buy anywhere in that range you want to. One of my suggestions is go to a reputable shop, like this one, where they have a lot of rods, see if you can get somebody to talk to you for a few minutes and answer those questions for ya. Tell them where you're fishin', how long you've been a-fishing. And how much money you've got to spend for a rod. If you can get answers to those three questions, you can pick out a pretty good rod. Probably won't cost you any more than you want to pay. When you go find a rod, take her out and fish for there for a while. The shopping sometimes is as much fun as the fishing. It's very difficult to balance one for one, East and West, because some of the Western missiles have 13 independently targetable nuclear warhead. Now, do you call that one missile or 13? So far, But the numbers game really means nothing, because each side has the capability of totally destroying the other, perhaps 50 or 60 times over, and a lot of the American technology and delivery systems and accuracy is far in advance of the Soviets. And so the idea that the Soviets are somehow far in advanced of the West is simply not true.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70382/file/156326#t=2081.659,2128.83
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70382/file/156326/transcript/86414/annotation/64
Speaker 12: What are you doing to persuade the Russians to do the same thing, and what reason would we have to believe that they would?
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70382/file/156326#t=2129.47,2134.25
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70382/file/156326/transcript/86414/annotation/65
Speaker 29: Well, I'd still say that you'd have the capability of totally destroying Russia. I don't believe the Russians actually want war any more than we want war. We sent a delegation of 18 people over to Russia after Christmas to talk with the Soviet Peace Council. They talked with people at the Kremlin. They traveled around Russia. They talked to the people who are trying for peace in that country. And within the limitations of the situation, and of course there are more limitations in Russia than there are here in America, we do whatever we can. To work for peace there as well. Russian economy is in a very bad state at the moment. They can't feed their people. They have terrible internal problems. If America were to halt the nuclear arms race, I'm sure that would be a relief to Russia. Russia will be able to slow down as well if you build 17,000 more nuclear warheads in this country. You can expect the Russian response to be to match that and overtake it.
