Over in the vegetable apartment locally, things are really beginning to pop. Broccoli, cauliflower coming in right now. Prices on these couple items aren't exactly low yet. A little later on in the season they will be. But lots of things, corn, green beans, very reasonably priced, cucumbers, nice week for a salad, head lettuce, all types of lettuce, green onions, radishes, all coming in locally. Zucchini, everybody knows about zucchini. Lots of zucchini on the market right now, good buy in that. Also yellow squash, nice alternative to zucchini. Similar flavor, cooks the same, a little bit more tender. So vegetables out of the local area, Pacific Northwest, Washington and Oregon, excellent right now. Fruit department, first off, California, best buys, seedless grapes, both red flame and green. Excellent value right now good sweet grapes. 49 to 79 cents a pound, excellent quality. Also, melons are very good buy. Cantaloupes and honeydews out of California, as low as 29 to 49 cents a pounds, excellent quality melons. Bad news out of california, is citrus prices are gonna be a little bit higher. Valencia oranges, which have been on for a couple of months, prices haven't come down. They're still running about 59 cents a pund. And lemons, in very, very short supply right now, running about a dollar a pound. So look out for those high prices and poor quality on lemons. Local fruit though. What's going on there? Well, blueberries are in season right now. Very good right now, about a dollar a basket, maybe a little bit higher. Excellent quality. Peaches and plums and nectarines coming on right now also locally. California's beginning to phase out a little bit, so local tree fruits coming on very strong. Looks like it's going to be a good year for local tree Finally, out of Hermiston, Oregon, as a matter of fact, 175 miles east of Portland, Hermiston Watermelon's coming in right now Watermelon is aptly named because they are 90% water. The flow is 10 to 15 cents a pound. We're in a watermelon season. And there's nothing better to cool you down on a hot day than some melon or some grapes or some berries. Guaranteed to make you feel better. So it's a good week for vegetables and a great week for fresh fruit. For Eyewitness News, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/138453/file/256756#t=854.94,981.15
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/138453/file/256756/transcript/79280/annotation/49
Speaker 7: 13-Year-old Ryan White has been barred from school in Indiana. During the past year, the Willamette National Forest has had to contend with tree spiking on Hardesty Mountain and at Pyramid Creek, tree sitters at Squaw Creek, and the removal of logging road survey stakes in the mountains east of Sweet Home, all designed to stop the logging of old growth timber. That their forest plans are the subject of protest isn't new, but these tactics represent an escalation. Of risk and commitment on the part of the protesters. Forest Service personnel move around, from state to state and forest to forest. According to Mike Morris, environmental coordinator for the Willamette National Forest, the Forest Service chief wants to make sure that regional and district rangers take the threat of ecotage and civil disobedience seriously. So the Forest Service is making a training videotape with a very clear message.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/138453/file/256756#t=1697.05,1750.41
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/138453/file/256756/transcript/79280/annotation/99
Speaker 37: That the people that are involved are really committed and feel very strongly, have deep convictions about what they're trying to accomplish, and that they really need to listen to those folks and try to resolve some of these conflicts before it gets to this level.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/138453/file/256756#t=1751.28,1772.4
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/138453/file/256756/transcript/79280/annotation/100
Speaker 36: Equipment sabotage, sometimes known as monkey wrenching, has at times been written off as mindless vandalism.
