A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking about goblins. But now I'm thinking about gobblers. Funny thing is Thanksgiving is really only about a week and a half away. And what I've laid out this week is an assortment of vegetables and nuts, what you can expect to look for the next week and half when you're shopping for your Thanksgiving feast. First of all, if you're going to make pumpkin pie this You might be better off looking for butternut, or acorn, or banana, or some other variety of squash. Pumpkins are very hard to find after Halloween. Also, pumpkins in general don't make the best pumpkin pie. You're much better off using a squash. The meat will be much more tender and less stringy. Brussels sprouts will be on the market in very good supply. You'll look for some good bargains on Brussels sprouts for the next week. Greens, salad greens, they should be in good supply. Green onions, radishes, lettuce of all kinds. Very reasonably priced for this time of the year. Cranberries. I've told you two times now, cranberries will be in very short supply. There probably won't even be any next week. So go out and get them early. And they're higher priced this year. Nuts. Good supply of nuts, although not too many local nuts. Little early for filberts and walnuts. A lot of wet weather has kept them wet. But nuts will be a good supply. Pecans, filberds, walnuts, almonds. Thanks. All running anywhere from $1 to $1.89 a pound. Look for bargains on nuts and stock up. Yams and sweets, they'll be in good supply. Also good price. You can find them as low as four and five pounds for $1, depending on size. Onions, yellow onions, a must for Thanksgiving, very good supply, 25 cents a pound, you'll pay higher price for red or white onions. Broccoli, tomatoes, good supply for this time of the year. Actually, tomatoes are a good buy, as low as 49.59 cents a pound. High-priced items that you'll be buying. Celery, right now, as high as $15 a box, which means it's going to cost you almost a dollar a stock, depending on the size. Eggplant, as higher as a dollar apiece, very short supply. And finally, roasting chestnuts, very, very very short supply, very rare right now. You'll pay as high two to three dollars a pound, but the quality will be good. So now you see what you've got ahead of you for next week. Hoping next Thanksgiving is a good one for you, I'm Terrence Potassium for Eyewitness News.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70249/file/156193#t=1250.22,1389.3
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70249/file/156193/transcript/86271/annotation/51
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70249/file/156193#t=1393.69,1399.17
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70249/file/156193/transcript/86271/annotation/52
Speaker 14: Well, this has all the looks of a high school algebra class. That money will help make up for lost federal grants and other funds that have run out. Still, DA Pat Horton will have to come up with a plan to cut $112,000 from his current budget. That's because Horton is short $267,000. That figure results from adding the loss of a career criminal grant and a court docket grant to earlier shortages. Horton fought hard to maintain his staff, telling the board losing the full amount would have a drastic effect on law enforcement. General Administrator George Morgan told the board they had to act because the problem was getting worse. He warned that money given to Horton would probably have to come from other departments. Commissioners Vance Freeman and Jerry Rust were willing to cut more, but finally went along with the rest of the board. Earlier, the commissioners heard from a number of collection agencies on the possibility of collecting old judgments. The board was told that out of a million and a half dollars outstanding. They'd be lucky to end up with 10%.
