Wow. What a neat storm last night. But I guess the rain is done, and you know, I saw more lightning and thunder this summer than I have all my last 10 years here. But I've got no shocking surprises for you in the fruit and vegetable department. It's Labor Day weekend, and prices are going to be good. And all the things that you take with you to make a good picnic this weekend are very reasonable. Sweet corn coming in locally. 8, 10, 12 years for a dollar. Very, very good, very sweet right now. Excellent quality. Green beans, tomatoes. Tomatoes were coming out of California. Our local tomatoes haven't really had the enough sun to get ripe yet, although we are seeing some cherry tomatoes. Salad greens, spinach, lettuce, green onions, radishes of all kinds. Very, very nice right now. So good weekend for a salad. If you're gonna take some fruit with you up in the mountains this weekend, we're out in a picnic. Melons are excellent. The watermelon is coming out of Hermiston, Oregon, which is up in northeastern Oregon. Watermelons running about 8 to 15 cents a pound, depending on if you get a cut piece or a whole watermelon. But they're really sweet right now. Also, out of California, cantaloupes, honeydews, cassavas, very, very good, very reasonably priced, and seedless grapes, red grapes, black grapes out of California, again, all very good. Locally, peaches are just about at the end of the season. We're into some late Albertas. They're a nice free stone peach. But what we are getting into, the plums, the pears, and the new crop of apples are right on us now. We're into graven scenes. You'll see some red and golden delicious coming on soon. Prices start a little high on apples, but they do come down. So tree fruit locally is very good. So, all in all, you can expect to have a nice weekend. I know the weather's going to be good and the food's going to be great. Have a safe weekend for Eyewitness News. I'm Terry Potassian.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70625/file/156571#t=104.49,202.5
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70625/file/156571/transcript/87647/annotation/4
Speaker 4: You who came off your freaking tapes up on my forehead See we make me mistake To away Stay Let me miss on the
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70625/file/156571#t=226.57,288.08
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70625/file/156571/transcript/87647/annotation/5
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70625/file/156571#t=350.99,351.47
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70625/file/156571/transcript/87647/annotation/6
Speaker 5: I tried to get him out a little bit. Instead, corporate counsel David Dinnerman spoke for the company. Dinnerman left Harsh construction in June 1982 and returned last June, just before the trouble started. He is widely credited with originating the innovative financing scheme under which Harsh sold homes to investors for about $5,000 down. The homes were simultaneously rented to people who wanted to buy but couldn't afford a down payment. During two years of renting, part of the money would go to a down payment fund. And then the homes were to be refinanced and the investor released from his obligation. He got a solid tax write-off plus a high quality rental. Tenants became homeowners, and Harsh made money on building, marketing, and management fees and was eventually to profit from selling part of the home equity it kept back, 20 to 25%. Everyone a winner. There was, by all accounts, a feeling of euphoria in the office. But in late July, Emerald Empire Bank, which was principal lender on the homes Harsh sold, brought everything to a screeching halt.
