Now they're in Germany because it took a bit longer to put them in Anglo-Saxon Greek which I intended. German because last week we had 500 students voting in the primaries and 500 students is really poor on the campus of 15,500. I went to a German professor and he said there's 500 German students in his class and potentially that doubles the voter turnout. If we get another 500 Guten tag students voting, we've got 1,000 students voting. Create a great hardship on students who don't read German? Not at all. We have English translations at the booth, so if students really want to see what these people are putting in their 12-word philosophy statements, that's there. All it does, it just highlights one aspect of the election process, the ballot slogans, which I think is pretty redundant. Have you had any criticism for your actions, Fred? Criticism? I I've had nine election complaints filed against me by senators in two impending impeachment proceedings. And I think this is the part of the reporting that the public is losing out on. Well, you're a former reporter. What would you criticize? Well, trying to be objective, I'll quote Paul Harvey, who's covered the legislature for 20 or 30 years, and in his column last Sunday, which was printed in many newspapers under his Associated Press byline, he said, the legislature appears to be setting a record for slowness. This may or may not be bad, but I think the story should be told to the public that we are moving slowly, and the slower we move, of course, the more it will cost the taxpayers. This is the input that should go to the voters. They can talk to their individual representative and see if there is a problem. If there is problem, what can we do about it? Do you think there's a problem? I think the leadership of the party has failed to give enough responsibility to the 27 freshman members of the House of Representatives. 27 of those freshmen are Republicans. I know most of the freshman members of a majority party, they feel like they've been short-changed, they haven't been given enough to do. So this leaves the workload to be carried by the incumbent members of majority party. It's a lot of work for a very few men and women to do. It slows down the process, and again, it costs more money. I think they should spread that responsibility around. It will be the only center of this type west of the Rockies, and it does differ in the sense that group therapy, book learning, individual counseling is the mode of treatment. Many of the other facilities will use drugs to treat the symptoms and therapy. It's a very fine line between the two because it's alcoholism is a very individual disease and each case has to be treated on its own merits. For instance, if this particular mode of treatment doesn't work for a person, perhaps the other modes would. Israel, a western state, just like ours, the Arab state running from the Persian Gulf to the Atlantic. Israel may appear to them really as cancer on the body politic of the Arab nation. The Arab also sees the early Canaanite as an Arab. He sees the Jews stealing the land from the Canaanite or the Arab under Moses and Joshua sees them in modern times stealing the lands under Weizmann, Ben-Gurion, Diane and so on. Then he sees the fact that there are only 3 million Jews and they keep beating 80 million Arabs. This obviously is an aberration and so the Arab says, we can be defeated many, many times. The Jews can be defeated only once. Further, Russia does not want peace in the Middle East because it's to her advantage not to have peace in the middle east. She can infiltrate all the Arab states. Russia has made a 20-year pact of friendship, a treaty with Iraq and we see her moving in the Persian Gulf area and when we realize that now we're falling behind on our power supplies by 1980. We will produce only about maybe 40% of the oil we need, or even less, and there the oil is over there, giving Arabs tremendous power for manipulation or negotiation in world affairs. Continue supplying them with phantoms. And I don't think the Israelis want anything but phantom because they act as the artillery for Israel. And with their magnificent air force, I think the Israeli are well able to take care of themselves, providing the USSR does not intrude itself into the struggle. There will clearly be some major issues in the economics. Kick off. Both Japan and West Germany have been rebuilt and it has been just one example in the last 10 days. The thing that has stabilized the currency of the United States abroad internationally has been the fact that West Germany and Japan have moved into the international money markets and shored up the dollar abroad. Had we not done what we did after World War II with both of those countries in helping them rebuild. Neither Japan or West Germany would have been able to do this sort of thing. Enlightened self-interest says to us, in my opinion, we should now move in and help to assure permanent peace in that area by giving some help to both sides. This is the committee that has within the scope of its potential jurisdiction how the Senate works vis-a-vis the House, what it is that the Congress does vis- I personally do not feel that the nation can or should move in the direction of unconditional amnesty. I think that to do that would be a contradiction of far too many things that have gone on in recent years. But I do personally feel that Congress and the nation should move to discuss the conditions that might be tied to amnest. I personally think that we would make a mistake to have all of the thousands of young men who have gone off and are no longer contributing to America with all their capacities, and just say flatly and blindly and across the board, there is no way, there are no conditions in which they can become again a part of the American society. That would be a mistake, in my opinion, that you want to go to, what this Congress is going to be dealing with. Is this thing that has been in headlines of what is the Congress going to do in reorganizing itself? Is the Congress is going to shape up in the economic field? Is it going to be able to set some sort of an overall budget for itself and then tailor
