He's from Mesa Arizona and he's fought a number of the top 10 fighters and he has done well against most of them. He I think is 30 years of age. Had his last fight some six weeks ago in Los Angeles I That fight will be a ten round fight. There will be three supporting bouts with it. The semi-main event will be an eight round fight between John L. Sullivan. John made his professional debut on the last card in Eugene when Terry fought Hugh Mercier, the Western Canadian champion, and he won with a knockout over a local fighter. His opponent will be Billy Rogers from Coos Bay, Oregon, who has fought in Eugene before as a popular fighter. But this is really a very small patch in the patchwork of revenue so far as local government is concerned. I really feel that an entire new approach to our local tax structure has to be taken. We felt it was. Offered to the legislature in an increase in the income tax to be used both as a property tax offset and for revenues to local government. The decision had to be made whether or not to forcibly remove the Viet Cong flag from the council chamber with the risk of creating additional or creating violence. And my feeling was that this was a symbolic gesture, primarily for the purpose to shock the members of the council and others in the chamber who are not part of the demonstration group, into taking some kind of action which would lead to a confrontation and further violence. So in trying to work out all of these eventualities, it seemed to me that the best action to take was to indicate my resentment toward it. But to get back to the main issue, which was not the flag, which they would like to have seen it be, but the main issues of getting the views of the council on the Vietnam War and on the actions of the police last week. So I'm willing to take full responsibility for it. As I say, in a tense situation like this, decisions have to be made quickly. We would be able to have a number of volunteers for civilian service and then they would serve in the areas of education and health, community service, protection services, in a concentrated fashion. So that maybe in a school system in which the teacher-pupil ratio is say 1 to 35 or 1 to 40, each teacher might have one or two tutors and a teacher aide and really beef up the school system in a way that quality education would then be offered to the students. For many young people today, the unemployment rate among black ghetto youth is up around 35, 40, 45 percent in some places, just fantastically high. And the reason so often is because these kids have never been able to get a job and the reasons for that is because that requires previous job experience so that if we could guarantee a job for a full year or full two years in a public service area and these are the areas where the greatest demand will be in the coming years, the fields of education and community health work and conservation, then that person will be one up already by having completed.
