He says an individual agent has been assigned to the case and will be taking statements from those involved. Birstaty says so far they haven't run into problems getting the necessary information. If they do, he says, it's possible they could use the powers of a federal grand jury to get the necessary statements and documents. U.S. Attorney in Eugene Tom Coffin says his office will consult with the Firearms Bureau, but at this point, he's describing the investigation as routine. Lane County District Attorney Pat Horton is still on vacation. His spokesman Darrell Larson is quoted in the Eugene Register Guard as saying, the entire incident is a tempest in a teapot. Larson has refused to answer our questions about the gun delivery since last Friday. In the meantime, Eyewitness News has formally requested copies of all correspondence between the district attorney's office and the rifle's manufacturer and distributor. The weapons were ordered in bulk at discount prices and were prepaid by individuals associated with the DA's office. The distributor has told us they do not do business with individuals, and the guns in question would not be sold to the public the way they are equipped. Then the next week, it says she used them and developed a severe illness known as Toxic Shock Syndrome. On January 6th, she was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital and was not released until mid-July. This stack of records documents Outka's medical difficulties. The suit claims she lost either the joints or tips of all but three of her fingers and toes because of injury to her blood and circulation. It also claims injury and harm to her brain and central nervous system, to her lungs and respiratory system, and to her kidneys and other internal organs. And it says she has suffered physical and emotional shock, pain, disfigurement, and disability. The suit says Playtex was negligent in manufacturing and marketing the super deodorant tampons by failing to conduct adequate research and by failing to warn women of the hazards, particularly of using the tampons over long periods of time. It also claims the company was negligent for not withdrawing the tampons from the market prior to the time Marion Alka bought them. And the suit claims Safeway was negligant for failing to stop selling the tampon when they should have known they could cause toxic shock syndrome. Now that the snow's all off the trails, July, late July's here, and the mosquitoes have subsided a little bit in the mountains, it's time to get out all your backpacking gear. Here's a tips on what will allow you to get your fishing tackle down to a minimum so you don't have to carry it if you're going a long ways. One of the necessities for a backpacking trip is a backpack rod. Little short four-piece rod limber and will accommodate a fly reel or a spinning reel. You can carry two small reels with you, one being a fly reel and the other one a small spinning reel. You take these reels, they'll both work on the same rod, you only have to carry one rod. You carry a small box like this that is full of flies and lures together. You don't have to worry about live bait if you have flies and lure. One other thing you might want to carry is a couple of these small plastic floats. You can put them on the end of a spinning line, put about three feet a liter on them. And use a fly at the end and use them where you don't have room to back cast or where you dont want to wade in a lake or stream remember if you go out and hook one of these fish keep your tip up this is Terry Coleman for eyewitness news in Eugene.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256#t=2572.35,2647.56
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256/transcript/86446/annotation/110
Speaker 28: Vibraphonist Charles Dowd came to Eugene to earn a living making music. Oregon and other states were granted funds which they passed on for food, shelter, medical aid, and social services. The Reagan administration, however, has taken a closer look at the Federal Office of Refugee Relocation and has asked that office to provide a torrent of statistics from each of the recipient states. That process has slowed down the distribution of funds. Money that was expected to reach the Oregon Adult and Family Services Division on July 1st didn't come until this Wednesday, and even then it was only about half of the funds needed. By that time, local refugees had been sent a letter warning them that the money might be late. Unlike many other states, the Oregon Legislature does not pick up the tab when payments are delayed. But I-Witness News has learned today that Phil Hawks, the director of the Office of Refugee Relocation has said that he, quote, will make every effort to provide Oregon with the necessary funds within the next few days, end quote. State Adult and Family Services Division spokesman Mike Kane told us that there now appears to be hope that the state will get the 1.5 million dollars it needs, but he warns that recipients should not get too optimistic. And quite frankly... Legislators in these economic times aren't very thrilled about raising taxes.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256#t=3297.03,3327.09
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256/transcript/86446/annotation/137
Speaker 19: Real estate division, your house, housing committee, and the home builders, the amendments that were made in the Senate.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256#t=3342.02,3349.3
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256/transcript/86446/annotation/138
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256#t=3352.81,3353.93
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256/transcript/86446/annotation/139
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256#t=3355.27,3355.27
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70312/file/156256/transcript/86446/annotation/140
Speaker 32: For a number of years, we've been using 24D as a part of our weed control program.
