Well, the storyline could use some work, and a couple million dollars more on special effects wouldn't have hurt, but I think the crew of the Starship Enterprise is aging pretty well. This fifth chapter in the cinematic voyage isn't the best of the Star Trek picks. Number 2 The Wrath of Khan is still my personal favorite. But neither is it the worst. Times have changed, and so have prices. In 1934, coffee in Brownsaville was selling for 33 cents a pound. With the money saved, a reader could buy one of these magic tonics. Some things never seem to change. This 1930s editorial demands that law-breaking hoodlums be thrown in jail. Right below it, another column rails against the idea of a sales tax. Here's another item from 1934. It is whispered around that an appointment of a new postmaster for Brownsville will be made soon. The paper has come a long way in its 100 years.
