You know, most supermarkets in their produce department, they carry lettuce and avocados and tomatoes. But what if you're looking for something hard to find, tomatillos or cilantro or something like that? Where can you go? Well, today we've come to a couple stores to check out their gourmet produce departments. One such store, Fred Meyer on West 11th. Not only do they have an excellent fresh fruit and vegetable department, they also carry a very good and very complete Oriental food and gourmet produce department. They carry everything from the Japanese eggplant, hickama, cactus leaves, all the way down to cherimoya, sugarloaf pineapples, plantain, cocktail avocados. They even carry passion fruit, and I had some of those today, and I'm a pretty passionate fellow. And besides having all these things, they even have these little recipe cards that tell you what to do with this stuff after you buy it. I mean, I don't think you'd want to eat your cactus leaves raw, you might want to chew them up. So this is a really wonderful place to visit if you need that gourmet produce. It's just one store that has gourmet produce. Another store we found a great gourmet produce section is the Safeway located at 18th and Oak. This whole top row of produce is all gourmet and hard-to-find produce. In addition to that, they've recently remodeled the produce section here and put in all this track lighting. Really kind of raises your awareness at any moment. I'm waiting for the entertainment to begin. And speaking of awareness, coming up next week is Oregon Rhubarb Awareness Week. It's on the gourmet rack this week, but pretty soon it'll be on the lower rack because it's the first crop coming in. So there are other stores that do carry a lot of gourmet items, but these two stores that we found, the Fred Meyer and the Safeway, were two of the best. For Eyewitness News, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70746/file/156695#t=43.1,135.24
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70746/file/156695/transcript/87639/annotation/2
Speaker 2: William Scott Smith strode confidently into circuit court this morning, but was not asked by Judge Val Sloper if he was guilty.
