I've heard some good fish stories and there's steelhead in all the rivers up and down the coast. But whenever the days get hot and it gets a little late in the fall like this, I start thinking about hunting. I can tell when season's getting close. We're only 30 days away from pigeon and dove season. Whenever I'm going to a sporting goods store, I find myself handling a shotgun or two, picking up some loading equipment and stuff, and looking around at the hunting regulations, I can't tell I'm getting pretty close. You know, there's two or three things you probably should be thinking about this close to hunting season. One of them is if you're going to have any work done on the old gun, you better have it done right now. If you wait, it's going to get so busy for the gunsmith that you won't be able to get it done just before season. They take up most all their time just mounting scopes on rifles when you get close to season. The other thing is... If you're going to do any scouting for deer hunting, this weekend might be the best weekend to do it. You know, the does have the fawns up big enough that they have them out of the brush now, and you can get a good look at the does and fawn population. The bucks have got horns in the velvet. You can get good look of those. Thank you. And if you just want to look the area over and find out how many deer are there, you can do that this weekend because the bull hunters haven't got out and stirred them around yet. They're not spooky yet. But don't give up on that summer fishing yet. There's got some real good fishing coming yet this fall and then hunting season right in the middle of it. That's one way of getting riders on MAX. By then, as another, seven more will carry bus riders to the Rockwood station. And eleven other Peter Lines will bring people to the Gateway station for transfers to live rail. Free ride and forced ride. That's how porters will get their first experiences on MAX! And then once they're on board, it's up to Max to do the rest. But we know what people are interested in. If that is what people want, then hundreds of thousands of dollars in promotion probably wouldn't have made much difference. Not if in the end Max still has to sell itself. Crime that may have wanted billboards and TV ads, but what may turn out to be the more compelling pitch is that East County residents who took the bus before may now have a shorter commute on Max.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71004/file/156955#t=1752.08,1829.45
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71004/file/156955/transcript/90030/annotation/64
Speaker 31: Basically the fire has knocked down. In one of these articles I saw the term Jar Wars. Referring to the drug testing that's going on in the White House with Reagan's staff members. And so I decided to do a piece about that, and I wanted to get a kind of a county fair atmosphere. And so, I actually went to the fair and I copied down a lot of descriptions about the booths at the fair. These are gonna be the little prizes that you can win. I have boxes and boxes of these kinds of things in my studio, and they're all labeled, so I know where they are. Most of the time, I know what they are! I see my role as an artist as sort of dealing with these kinds issues I'm talking about. Apartheid in South Africa, the Contra War against the people of Nicaragua. My art is my political work. This is a piece called It's Okay Now. And again, it's a piece about South Africa. Specifically about the love laws. Up until recently, blacks and whites were not allowed to marry. Or if they did, it was considered illegal by the South African government. Now, it's OK. Blacks and whites can marry. But that doesn't really make any difference in the situation there. This is one of another series of works. It's called the Bad Girls series. I've always been attracted to gothic novel covers, the graphic part of them, and at the same time find the messages very disturbing. I use images that we're familiar with so that when you first look at one of my pieces you feel comfortable. It's only when you start to look at the piece more carefully that I think you begin to feel disturbed by it.
