And anybody that don't trout fish I think is missing something. You know there's a lot of people say I don't want to go out there opening weekend and get involved in the crowd. I really enjoy that I'm going up on the McKenzie this weekend and I want to catch some fish and have a good time. I'm goin with the right attitude I know there are a lot people gonna be up there and you're gonna have to be a good sport this weekend in order to enjoy yourself. Now if you don't want to get involved into the crowds there's a whole lot of other things you can be doing. Sturgeon fishing is good on the Columbia, the bass fishing is all over the state. You could be doing some catfishing, there's all kinds of things you could be doing. Or you could out going out and chasing some trout on doing the traditional thing on the opening weekend of trout season. I always have a tendency to talk right over the head of the people that are just beginning fishing. So what I'm going to do is give you a little tip this weekend that will help you catch a couple of trout and you don't have to buy out the tackle store in order to do it. I know the tackle manufacturers don't like to hear me say these things but really all you need is some eggs and worms a pretty good size hook some split shot and a light spinning rod and you're ready to go trout fishing. You can catch just about as many trout that way as you can any other single way. Now I'm not one to be advising you not to buy too much trout gear because I couldn't haul all of mine to the river if I wanted to this weekend. So I've got a lot of gear. But let me show you how to tie on a hook first of all. Very simply just run the leader through the eye of the hook, give her a three four or five twists. And then run the tip of the line right back through the hole that's left at the eye and pull it closed and you're tied on. That's a simple way to tie on and I tie about 90% of my knots like that. Then all you got to do is go up your line about a foot or two, put one single split shot on there, stick a couple of eggs on that hook, flip her out here in the river and you are trout fishing. You're going to catch some trout. Now all the rivers and all of the weather is really conducive to having a real good opening this weekend. So get out there on the river. Take your simple stuff out there and catch a mess of trout. I'm real excited about trout season opening, and I hope you are too. Today's run took place in and around rural Rattlesnake Butte near Pleasant Hill, the object of the entire $11 million effort, this year's progeny of last year's leaf-eating gypsy moths, tiny caterpillars now about a quarter of an inch long that will grow bigger and eat faster as the weather warms. But warm weather also brings out the helicopters delivering death-dealing bacillus thuringiensis. Rain delayed today's mission by 48 hours.
