I know April Fool's right around the corner, but this week, I'm not going to joke with you. Produce prices are beginning to come down substantially, particularly fresh vegetables. Let's take a look. Got some alliterating values this week. Astounding asparagus, affordable artichokes. Prices have really come down on these. Stupendo snow peas, about a dollar and a half a pound. Careful carrots, congenial cabbage. Now cabbages was a dollar a pound a week ago. It's down to about 59 cents a pound this week. Even Copacetic cauliflower, luscious lettuce, a great week for a salad. Leaf lettuce out of California, very, very reasonably priced, 39 to 59 cents a head. Even sometimes boring broccoli is on sale this week, as low as 49 cents a pound. One thing we might have some problems with tantalizing tomatoes. They're out of Mexico right now. Prices are relatively good, but we're going to see some flirted tomatoes soon. Look out for higher prices and poor quality. All in all though, vegetables are very good. Quickly in the fruit department. Melons remain good, although prices in fruit are just a little bit higher. Cantaloupe and honey do about a dollar a pound. There are some good buys, the seedless grapes out of chili, about a dollar and a half a pound. And last week I talked about controlled atmosphere apples. I want to tell you what a controlled atmosphere apple is. After they pick all the apples in the fall, some of them are put in an oxygen-free storage. Oxygen causes fruit to ripen. So they put the apples in oxygen-free storage. This keeps them nice and fresh. Then they come out of the storage. And they're very crisp. Most apples that aren't in that kind of storage are very mealy this time of the year. It's six months past their harvest date. So controlled atmosphere storage apples. You'll pay about ten to twenty cents more pound for them, but they still have that snap crackle pop when you bite them. So all in all, it's a good week, no April Fools, for Eyewitness News, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70704/file/156651#t=1315.64,1422.669
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70704/file/156651/transcript/87515/annotation/39
Speaker 22: Elizabeth Diane Downs' attorney tried unsuccessfully earlier today to prevent certain evidence from being used in her May 8th murder trial.
