With this beautiful, warm fall we're having, we're going to have beautiful, low produce prices for the next week or two. Let's look over at the fruit market. Locally, we're still into apples and pears. Peaches are just about the end of their season, and plums. California produce markets are going up, but there's still some good buys in the cantaloupes, honeydews, and grapes. These prices will be escalating next month, but right now, there's some goodbyes on them. Swinging over to the vegetable scene, Locally, because of this warm weather... Long, sunny days. We're getting a really abundance of good crops. Cucumbers, red and green cabbage, all very nice. Eggplant, tomatoes. Tomatoes in particular are good this year. It's been years since I've seen nice ripe tomatoes like this. It's because of the nice, warm, sunny days and very little moisture. Also, we're getting cauliflower, green peppers, yellow and zucchini squash, and corn still coming on strong. Finally, the vegetable item of the week this week. Are local carrots. The carrot crop really just begins in the fall. Carrots will only get better as the season wears on and the ground gets a little more moisture, the carrots get a little sweeter. Carrots right now are running about a quarter a pound and the prices will be dropping. So as long as we don't have a freeze and the weather continues to be good, look for low prices on all local fruits and vegetables.
