That means you'll probably have to add a little extra something to your soil this year, and if you want to put things in early, you'll have to use a chemical fertilizer Because organic fertilizers take about a month until they're really ready for the plants to get at them. One other thing you might find missing from your soil, your little buddies, the worms. Sometimes the wet ground will actually drive them away, and you can do one of two things. Either go out and buy some worms or try to lure them back in. The best way to do that, just some organic matter, some leaves, maybe a little bit of compost. They help aerate the soil. They'll make a big difference on how things perform this summer. One last thing I always like to pass on, no matter how dry your garden soil seems, grab a handful of it, squeeze it into a ball. If it breaks up like this, your garden is ready to work, but if it stays in a lump, the soil is just too wet, give it a little bit more time. By the way, there were no problems in my garden.
