One is the Pendleton Woolen Mill, which opened in 1909 and is doing a boom business since 80th year. Visitors can drop by on weekdays to hear the crash of the machine looms and watch them weave the vivid designs for Pendleton's distinctive Indian blankets. The first tours, Monday through Friday, begin at 9 a.m. The final tour starts at 3 o'clock. And a new attraction, opened downtown just last week, offers tours of Pendleton Underground, the city beneath the city that's being slowly restored to its turn-of-the-century condition. These live mannequins pose in period costumes to fill out the vintage scenes. Eventually waxed figures may take their place with just enough live action mixed in to keep visitors wondering what's real. A group of Pendleton locals formed a non-profit organization to restore the network of rooms and hallways beneath this city block.
