Body bags were unloaded at a search and rescue base camp close to Buck Mountain, and then were taken back to Eugene by the Lane County Coroner's Office for examination. As the bodies were being driven down from the mountain, Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators arrived on the scene. They flew over the wreck but decided against a detailed examination until all concerned authorities are ready to make a single trek into the remote site. Because of this decision, there's no official speculation on the accident. But unofficially, here's what seems to have happened. The single engine aircraft left Malan's suite at about 2.30 Saturday afternoon for a sightseeing trip to and from Cougar Reservoir. Half an hour later, residents of Blue River spotted the plane flying at an unusually low altitude over town. But British Columbia is offering a lot more than this international fare to the summer traveler, not the least of which is the bustling cosmopolitan city of Vancouver, and the welcome mat is out. It's a stylish yet comfortable amalgam of gleaming man-made skyscrapers dwarfed by the stunning natural ones. The fast lane and the slow. Uptown and down home for 1.2 million people. The city's ethnic diversity matches the exotic flavor of Expo with large Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Greek, and East Indian communities, accenting the predominantly Anglo population base. Just off the Expo site, the West End is crowded with shops to serve the quarter million upwardly mobile high-rise tenants who live there. Robson Street offers a walkable smorgasbord of fashionable clothing stores, meat markets, pasta places, smart boutiques, bakeries, and delis. The variety of food available is astounding, with endless quantities of fresh coffee and pastries for the morning shoppers and the business crowd. And later, there are menus to be checked at the pocket restaurants dotting the street. We sampled the artistry at La Crepe Breton. Yes, it was delicious. By no means is all the art edible in this city. Just down the street at Robson Square, Vancouver has art to view, art to buy, and art to hear. Vancouver is a town of second languages. Fortunately for most American travelers, almost everyone speaks English, even inside the ethnic communities. The oldest of these is Chinese, and it boasts the second largest Chinatown in North America. Founded in 1858, it's anything but a museum. The historic buildings vibrate with the daily trade of the 100,000 people who live and work here, the markets catering to an oriental palate, the unfamiliar so commonplace here.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70968/file/156919#t=1677.93,1812.39
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70968/file/156919/transcript/88240/annotation/82
Speaker 11: This one is soft.
