There are a few turkeys this year around the holiday season. We've seen some rain. I don't have to tell ya that it's been raining here, but it's raining in California. Higher prices on lettuce, particularly leaf lettuce. 69.79 cents for red leaf and green leaf. You might go to head lettuce, which is considerably cheaper, about 39 to 59 cents a head. Celery and carrots for the holiday, very good. Brussels sprouts, 79 cents a pound. Onions, 19 cents a pounds. Here's a turkey zucchini, about a buck a pound. Now, to California, where it's been wet, very expensive. Potatoes, all very good, particularly red potatoes, about 29 cents a pound, if you're gonna make a chestnut stuffing, we had rain this spring, that's all it does, it seems like it's since summer, it's either rain in the spring or rain in fall. Chestnuts, we had to import some, chestnuts about three dollars a pound over in fruit, if you gonna eat some fruit, the satsuma tangerines are the very best right now, that's the seedless sipskin, 50 to 70 cents a pounds. They are magnificent. Pomegranates are good. I told you about high prices of lettuce. You might want to switch to some Belgium endive, which is very nice for the holidays. Either serve it raw in a salad, or you can braise it that's sauteed. It's supposed to be very good if you're water retention problem. I'm not sure exactly the medical meaning behind that, but Belgium endiv. It's about $4 a pound, though, a little spendy. Finally, cranberries. I told about cranberries being higher this year, and in short supply, we've had to bring cranberries in from the East Coast. Remember, the cranberries now are bagged in a 12-ounce bag. Most recipes call for one pound. So you've got to buy either two 12- ounce bags or cut your recipe. It's a little trick that they have. It says buy two, freeze one. They do freeze very well. So get your cranberries. They're about a dollar a bag. And have a good holiday. For Eyewitness News, I'm not a turkey. I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70846/file/156797#t=931.89,1037.089
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70846/file/156797/transcript/90007/annotation/34
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70846/file/156797#t=1063.07,1063.77
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70846/file/156797/transcript/90007/annotation/35
Speaker 14: Isn't that a one-on-one night? He said the church renews its preferential option to help the poor. During his annual Ur-B-A-Ur-B to the city and world address in St. Peter's Square, the pope ran through a long list of those who he felt deserved the prayers of the world on this Christmas day. There were the starving people of Ethiopia and other drought-stricken regions of Africa, the unemployed, the refugees, the kidnapped, the sick and lonely, those imprisoned for dissent from the ideology of regime, those whose human rights are being violated, and those people who have paid with their lives for practicing the teachings of the Church. All of these groups, the Pope said, are in the tragically concrete and daily reality of their suffering. Pope John Paul warned the faithful against the temptations of materialism. He criticized what he called the cynical society of consumerism. The Pope broke away from his prepared text to deplore the terrible massacre that took place this week on the Naples to Milan train. Sixteen people were killed when a bomb went off. The Pope expressed his sympathy for the families of the victims. Despite all the problems in the world, the Pope said he saw signs recently of renewed sensitivity for those who lack to bear necessities. Pope John Paul commented on civil authorities, church groups, and private citizens who were making an effort in the battle against world hunger. Some of these very groups were represented in a march against hunger through the streets of Rome. The rally ended up in St. Peter's Square in time to hear the Pope appeal for peace on Christmas Day 1984.
