The mayor and many other leaders, many other people around who have a big stake in what's happening today will be on hand to lay down the last of the ceremonial bricks. Scores of Onlookers studied the new artwork out here. It's quite interesting. And those who have been around for a few years are harkening back to the old glory days of a wide-opened Willamette Street. Now, getting back to what's happening out here now, we're still waiting for the big ribbon cutting. As with some celebrations that have a lot of people, things are a little bit delayed right now. There are police officers out on Gateway controlling traffic. They've got one lane for through traffic, one lane for coming into the post office. We'll have postal workers here until midnight to take your return right from the window and make sure it gets postmarked by midnight so you don't get in trouble with the IRS. And if you're really in trouble and you need some help you can go down to the Eugene, Maine post office downtown and until 10 o'clock tonight there will be state tax people there to answer your questions and provide forms for you. So if you are really a procrastinator that's where you can get some help. We've noticed that for some people showing up at the post office on April 15th is a ritual. And earlier this afternoon we caught up with some of those late filers and everyone's got their reasons for filing their taxes late. And if you're still scrambling to pay your taxes, it's not too late. You have until 1159 to get those taxes in here to the post office. And again, someone will be here to take your tax return right out of the car and make sure it's postmarked by midnight. And if your still not sure what you need to do, we've got some last minute tips for you. First, estimate how much you owe and send in a check for that amount. That way you won't have to pay a late penalty. Next, request an extension form be sent to you. That'll give you an extra four months to file your return, and you won't get that call from the IRS.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356#t=1838.9,1923.0
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356/transcript/89890/annotation/113
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356#t=1924.62,1924.98
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356/transcript/89890/annotation/114
Speaker 15: If somebody doesn't get their taxes in by midnight tonight, does someone from the IRS show up about 12.05 with handcuffs or something at their door? Also, around your home, make sure that you keep the bushes trimmed, your lights on, and the big thing is get to know your neighbor. Let them know who you are so that you can look out for each other's property and families. Gene, are there any other crimes that jumped? I'll get out of the way and you can take a look. It's really not all that more busy right now than it ever is on a work day at about this time in the afternoon, but people should be aware that a lot of the out-of-towners are going to take predictable routes, and if you're a local, you should avoid those routes. For example, stay away from Autzen Stadium altogether. I talked to Brian Territor, the Department of Public Safety. He says locals basically have two choices, avoid this area, including Coburg Road, Ferry Street Bridge Centennial Boulevard and anything around them and Stay out of those areas, particularly around, say, 6 to 8 o'clock and then also when the concert could be getting out, say around 10, 30 or 11. And if you have to travel, he says you have one other choice, and that's simply be patient. Avoid the traffic, but if you get stuck in it, you're going to be moving slowly, so be patient, and we'll just see what happens. But so far right at this point, the traffic doesn't seem all that dramatic.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356#t=2685.64,2747.66
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356/transcript/89890/annotation/175
Speaker 20: Alright, thanks Al. We're beginning to see a lot cars file in. I was getting a little worried there for a bit. I thought the whole thing would be a bus. But we're beginning see cars from Washington State, some from Colorado, some from British Columbia, even a couple from Idaho. And if you look inside the car, you're seeing some young people. And I'm assuming, you know, they're not here to take in the senior. I think they're here for the concert. Anyway, if you are from town, though, you ought to know that you should be avoiding some areas because about 35000 people are coming into town. That's the size of a small city. So the Department of Public Safety says, well, you should avoid traffic areas, traffic areas like Coburg Road, like Ferry Street Bridge, like Centennial Boulevard. People coming here to town can't avoid them, but you can. And If you can avoid them, you'll just make the job a little bit easier for the Department of Public Safety. I told you we'd cool down a little bit from yesterday But still unbelievable for the middle of May our low last night staying in the 40s So a little cool this morning. No rain. Not a big surprise there temperatures around the rest of the state We're actually a little warmer. Let me give you look at one other areas We're doing 80 for an official high this afternoon in Eugene. Actually, I was paddling around a little too long 83 in Salem 90 in Roseburg and Medford so plenty of warm weather on the coast warming up a bit again today. I think tomorrow you're going to yo-yo back down a few degrees to the mid-range of the 60s and will cool off a little bit in the inland areas also. How about a look at the cloud cover from across the state? Not a whole bunch of it and it won't be thick clouds anywhere but the clouds you see just off of Astoria may be thick enough to drop a sprinkle or two then things will start to clear out by mid-afternoon tomorrow and that means more sunshine on the way so no real major changes in our weather pattern. The rest of the country still seeing warm weather for the entire Western U.S. And cool weather for parts of the upper Great Lakes. They had some light snow in Duluth this morning. Other areas seeing not quite that type of situation, but still unusually cool for one part of the country. That's why it's unusually warm around here. Extremes from around the nation today I didn't get the high in there but 19 out of Ely Minnesota was the cold spot desert southwest typically the cool spot or should say the hot spot for this time of year and that was the case today. How about a look though at our satellite loop and you'll see some actual clouds approaching. The only difference in this warm weather pattern from what we usually see in the summer is we've got a storm out there in the Pacific that's actually pumping the warm air up in front of it. Typically in the summer it's one big ridge and if I put the jet stream on there you'll see the little cutoff storm sitting out there in the pacific still. Far enough away to ensure us of at least a couple more nice days. Let's put the forecast together for you now we'll give you a live look at idea. Waterway we're paddling around on cloudy on the coast later tonight Maybe even a sprinkle and then turning sunny 50s and 60s for your highs up in the Cascades It looks like mostly sunny again tomorrow highs around 65 degrees for Central, Oregon more sunshine highs staying in the 80s with the summer pattern continuing Roseburg cooling to the 70s tomorrow still a lot of sunshine Corvallis a little cloudiness in the morning then sunshine and free Jane Springfield some clouds around in the morning and then sunny and oh gosh a mere 75 degrees longer term outlook 67 is typical for this time of year we won't get even close to that for a high. Right on through the weekend, and I shouldn't say this on TV, but it looks like next week is going to be...
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356#t=3191.01,3347.43
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356/transcript/89890/annotation/205
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356#t=3347.31,3350.71
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71403/file/157356/transcript/89890/annotation/206
Speaker 25: A chance to get out there.
