A military showdown, said one diplomat, that could trigger a civil war. The people, meanwhile, have turned to guerrilla action to oppose the Army. Defiance comes in individual acts. In front of the Beijing Hotel, a lone student held off a tank column for several minutes. The tank moved. So did he. He climbed onto the tank shouting, stop, stop the killing. While those who watched held their breath, he was escorted away before the army lost its patience. Later that morning, the two victims were allegedly stabbed to death by Blanco in the parking lot of their apartment complex on Tyler Street. Eugene police say the woman never asked for an officer to accompany them to the apartment. The police say they often assist abused women who want to pick up their belongings.
