There's two things that my mom told me that a man can't get enough of. One is polo shirts, thank you, mom, and the other are fresh fruits and vegetables. And I'm here to see that you get your fresh fruits and vegetables. Fruit, very good this week, out of California. Seedless grapes, red grapes, about the lowest price of the year, 99 cents a pound. Very good quality fruit coming in right now. Other tree fruit out of California, peaches, plums, and nectarines. We've almost seen the peak of the nectarine season, and pe same with peaches, they're starting to escalate. But the local peaches are just coming on out of Washington. Look for a good peach crop this year. Again, on the local scene, raspberry is just finishing up about another week or so. We've had straight warm weather, so the raspberries are just about finished. Blueberries about the middle of the season, wonderful right now. Bing cherries, their crop is also finishing up, but the cherries have been wonderful. Over in the vegetable department, more local produce coming on every week. Green beans, wonderful this week. Zucchini is low as 39 cents a pound. Very nice. Sweet corn, finally, out of the Pacific Northwest. I love that fresh sweet corn when it comes locally. It reminds me of being back in Illinois. Very good right now, four or five for a dollar. The tomato market out of California is going to be up this week. You might want to switch to some cherry tomatoes. They were very good this week. Now, the big question is why are potatoes so expensive? 59, 69, 79 cents a pound. It's because there are no fresh potatoes on the market. All the potatoes that we're getting are out of storage. You're going to pay a lot of money for russet potatoes. They will be coming down, but they're as high as 79 cents a pound in some places. Finally, I was gonna Save eating Walla Walla sweet onions for the Republican Convention. I can't wait that long. If you've never had a Walla Walla sweet, they are a delicious yellow onion. Try them grilled or barbecued. They eat them raw. They're not hot at all. I do suggest you make an investment in some chlorettes though. It's a passive solar design with a combination of features that keeps the temperature between 65 and 75 degrees year-round without the use of fossil fuels. 70 large drums filled with water are situated to absorb heat from the sun's rays in the wintertime. In summer, they're protected by the insulated blinds to keep cool. Thermal curtains on the front windows are controlled by a thermostat to open and close automatically.
