The weather has a lot to do with it. I think Dave Sweeney tells us we might get a little shower. If that happens, all kinds of things could be good or better than they are now. You know, this weekend is the weekend, first weekend of cow season for elk. Also, deer season's open for bow. You could be over fishing for C run cutthroat or salmon on any of the coast streams. And if we do happen to get a shower, that could be red hot. What I think I'm gonna do this weekend is I'm gonna load up my fly rod for the C run cutthroat. I'm gonna load up a spinning rod and a drift rod for salmon and half pounders. I'm gonna take my shotgun in case I can find some pigeons and it doesn't rain. I'm gonna have a whole load of equipment and I'm just gonna head toward the coast this weekend. If you get out there this weekend, make sure you check your regulations to be sure whatever you're doing is legal. You've got the tags that you need for it. The banquet is in progress right now while you watch this, and the gals are still selling tickets here. Let me give you an idea of what the Ducks Unlimited Banquet's like if I can right quick. This gun that I'm holding in my hand will probably sell for $2,000 at auction. It's a one-of-a-kind gun made especially for this banquet for Ducks Unlimited. But more important maybe to you than that is we have 300 prizes here, and we've only sold 195 dinner tickets. So the odds of winning a prize here with your dinner ticket is very good. Come on out and bring your checkbook. It costs $35 to get into the banquet. We've got 300 prizes to give away, and you're going to get a nice dinner with it with your ticket. We've got two shotguns here that are both well in excess of $2,000 that we're going to give away tonight. We've got a shotgun that nobody has ever seen before. We've just got unlimited number of prizes here to give away. So if you want to come on out tonight, have some fun, have a couple of drinks with us, have dinner with us, and see the real fun of getting duck hunting started in the fall. I feel a little distant. Maybe it's because probably I'm a couple thousand miles away while you're watching this, watching a ball game. But anyways, we're really lucky in Oregon here. We've got some great produce. Here it is, October, and we're still in the fall vegetable harvest. Broccoli, cauliflower coming on very nicely. These cool, cool evenings, and boy, they have been getting kind of rather chilly. Nice to bake a squash, acorn squash, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, all coming in locally right now. It's a real change. The green beans are finishing up. The corn is finishing up. There is still some available, but we're just about at the end of the season for this. Tomatoes, another couple of weeks. Tomato's been, like I said, a wonderful year. Out of California, yams, sweet potatoes, potatoes of all kinds. In fact, we had a very high potato market a couple of months ago, and it's really come down now. Potatoes are a very good buy. Bakers in particular, about 29 to 39 cents a pound. Over in the fruit department, well, I told you apples are very good. Bartlett pears, excellent right now. Prune plums, all coming locally. The California grapes just about finished up, seedless grapes and cantaloupe starting to get a little weak. You should go to a grape with a seed like a toque or a ladyfinger grape. There are some good end-of-the-season buys on melons and avocados, but prices are going to start to escalate on fruit, and pretty soon bananas will be the only soft fruit available, like they are all during the winter. But all in all, a very good week. Happy fall, happy October for eyewitness news. I'm happy Terry Potassium. Now, then we always talk about you need a nice rod and you've got to have the right size hooks and you've got to do all the have the right amount of liter and you've got to stay on the bottom, and you talk about equipment, but what we're really talking about is a mental picture of what's happening. Now, if you get out here on the river and you chunk a bunch of eggs out there, and you just stand here and look at the birds fly by, you're gonna get a lot of pickups that you don't know about. A lot of people don't understand how you can stand down on the river and fish three or four hours in one hole for a salmon. What takes up that time is concentration. Anybody that's out there really fishing for the salmon is concentrating on what you're doing. Now, this is what I'm gonna tell you that's gonna improve your salmon fishing by 25%. When you throw a big bunch of eggs out there in the river fishing for spring or fall salmon, and they're drifting along there, make a mental picture of actually what that hook and bait and sinker's doing under the water in front of the salmon. So if you're thinking about that and you're drifting that along there, and you're thinking about those eggs bouncing along there and what they look like, how close they are to the bottom, whether they're stopping or what that line's doing right where it enters the water, that'll give you the first indication of a pickup. When a salmon picks eggs up, they just pick them up in their mouth, mash them, and they'll release the hook, and you'll never know they're there if you weren't ready whenever they took that hook in their mouth. What you have to do is be right on the ball when they pick those eggs up. Try that. You get out there and throw some eggs in the river. Concentrate on that bouncing along there. And as soon as that stops or anything interrupts the drift of that, you can tell whether it's bottom or a fish. And when you stick them, you'll have a nice fish on. Get out there and try that. If you hook a big one, remember what to do. Keep that tip up. This is Terry Coleman for Eyewitness Sports.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70824/file/156774#t=2466.46,2571.54
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70824/file/156774/transcript/87704/annotation/99
Speaker 40: The Worldwide Church of God is taking over the Hulk Center for their annual fall festival that runs through next Thursday.
