But before I discuss these talks and our plans for the future, let me give the background a minute. In our budget proposal, we have continued the process that we started last year. I'm trying to get control of runaway government spending. Deficits over the last few decades have been literally built into the federal structure. The rate of increase in spending was 17% when we took office. This budget is not far missed. An hour away from downtown Los Angeles, in Anaheim, you'll find Disneyland. To get into Disneyland for a day, it'll cost a family of four, two adults and two children, just under $40. That includes unlimited use of rides. By the way, that's a little cheaper than it costs to get into Disney World in Orlando. That's because Disneyland here is a little smaller and a little older. Disneyland is more than 25 years old and you may not be aware that several rides have been closed for renovation. Take for instance the Matterhorn. It's been shut until this summer, so you may want to ride Disneyland and see just what rides are closed. Everything is working though at another popular theme park just 20 minutes away. It's Knott's Berry Farm with an old west motif. Best bet a ride called Montezuma's Revenge included with the admission price. You should take that ride before you head for the famous Knott's Restaurant and have a chicken dinner. It's about six dollars and well worth it. One more nearby stop, Marine Land, with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and some entertaining shows for the children. But I like a chance to squeeze into a wetsuit and hop into an exotic fish display. That's no extra charge and they'll supply all the equipment. You may consider, though, bringing your own bathing suit. And tomorrow in our final report We'll tell you about some big Franks and some relatively big buns to find in Los Angeles. I've got good news for you this week. This is really the first week this year when produce prices, particularly vegetables, have come down. Let's take a look. Out of California, Castroville artichokes coming in now. Very reasonably priced. The large ones running about $1 apiece. Small ones will run you a little bit less than that. Other things out of California that are good buys this week, cucumbers, broccoli, Hass avocados. The Hass avacados are in again. Three or four for a dollar, very, very nice right now. We're seeing some movement locally. Asparagus out of Washington coming in about $1 a pound, very, nice right. Now local green onions, spinach, salad greens, good week for a salad. Local rhubarb coming in, very very nice. Prices have really come down on rhubarb. It was 69 cents a week ago. Now it's as low as three pounds for a $1. Tomatoes out of Mexico, they're a little bit high right now, 60 to 80 cents a pound. But the quality is excellent. Swinging over to the fruit department. Best buys this week. California strawberries, as low as $0.49 to $0,59 a basket. Very, very good quality. Other values this week, limes. The lime market was over $2 a pound. They've come down to about half that right now. Speaking of citrus, it's about the end of the citrus season. The California navel crop is about to go belly up, so to speak. It was about the last week for navel oranges. Texas grapefruit coming in, $4, $5, $6 per dollar. Very good quality, $0 to $7. Soon to be over season. Apples coming in now are all controlled atmosphere. They're all extra fancy. With my salary, I can only afford extra plain. But the Newtown's Red Delicious and Golden Delicious are all very, very good right now. You'll pay about 40 to 70 cents a pound, however. Finally, a couple special items. Cilantro or fresh coriander coming in this weekend for Cinco de Mayo. Excellent your Mexican or Chinese cooking. And also fresh mint. Great for that mint julep while you're watching the Kentucky Derby. So, it's a great week for vegetable lovers.
