There are thousands of jobs going begging, and quite frankly, there has to be a means to put the people together with the jobs. And we think we've got the solution, and that is to, on an emergency basis, hire private enterprise to help the states complete the task of getting these people back to work. A complete halt on the spraying of dioxin-laced herbicides in the Willamette National Forest. The order to stop came from the Forest Service itself. There were several reasons why those spraying plants were abandoned. First, our recent warm weather, which has brought out the buds on these Douglas fir trees. Second, new regulations imposed on the Forest Service by the US Department of Agriculture. And third, the controversy which has surrounded the spraying. Forest Service officials say they finally gave up. Listen, I am absolutely overjoyed. It just really goes to prove that when the people decide to get active and become involved and be heard, that they're going to be heard and that we're going to get action. And I'm just absolutely over joyed that there's going to be no more spring in the Willamette National Forest this year. This is where Ellen Barrington is spending her days now at the Eugene Office of Citizens for Human Rights. She's taken a leave of absence and she's now working full-time on a major coordinated campaign for purpose, to bring out the no vote on ballot measure 51, May 23rd. Ellen is not alone. As the vote draws near, this office is being fully staffed by volunteers. I'm not sure if you can hear me. Oh, I can hear you. I'm just trying to get you to hear it. I'd like to have more opinion cases between the city and the city body. Have more opinions than the city says they're supposed to have. Oh my god! I'm just about to do this. Look at him! Look at me! Look at that! I would hope the public would join hands with the new board and look at the next step on implementing of a new law. These are not everybody, but segments. We've got to get this thing around to where there's more space. Are able to achieve more than we've asked of them. I've found a collection of data on existing programs and educational availability to Eugene High School students. Go number. I don't blame this directly on the superintendent, I blame it on part of you. I hope the board is prepared. I think we have one of the finest educational leaders in the United States. So, for Superintendent Tom Pesant, last night's public evaluation represents an overwhelming endorsement of the man and his work. All that may change, of course, when the new board members take office in July, but one thing is clear. As long as Tom Peszant occupies this office, he will remain a controversial figure. It's a little bit on the defensive, and perhaps a little on the shelf. So I think that when the election year is over, it will be found that we have to move very far from that position. We give them all the reasons why they should go ahead. The meaning of this is that this person who wrote this... Well, one of the things that the victim has is that when it goes to trial, he will have to be in the courtroom. He will have the consent of the defendant, the person who raised her, and he will to tell in intimate detail exactly what happened at the time of the attack. He probably had a few people in the court room. We also... It may have a problem with the number of delays before the case actually comes to trial. Sometimes it will come to trial within a couple of months, and at other times it may be as long as eight or nine months or even a year after the incident before it will go to trial an astronomy trial. First of all, the evidence of the sexual character or the reputation for chastity of the victim is just not admissible for any purpose, that's what the law says. Secondly, the evidence of previous sexual conduct of the victim with the defendant. Is only admissible after a hearing in which the judge determines outside the presence of the jury whether or not it is relevant on the issue of consent. That is, did the victim consent?
