EPUD, the Emerald Public Utility District, has already begun work on a $4 million complex just outside the city limits. And the Lane Electric Cooperative is building a $1.5 million headquarters in West Eugene. One is a 40,000 square foot United Grocers discount store, the other an 83,000-square foot club wholesale outlet. The two projects should total close to five million dollars. The Goodwill Industries will spend close to a million dollars for a new production facility in West Eugene. There's also a mini construction boom downtown, although most of it involves remodeling. The old McDonald Theater gets a $700,000 retail facelift, and across the street, the Schaeffer building is also scheduled for cosmetic surgery.
