However, according to the investigator, it's not clear if Hutchings who moved to Earlier this year might have been importing drugs from the islands. Second, the police official has also confirmed they are looking seriously at reports that Hutchings had loaned a great deal of money to the Sikh movement. Hutchings himself was a Sikh. Our sources place those loans in the half million dollar range. The police say their reports include amounts in excess of one million dollars. However, they caution that all of their information at this time is nebulous and needs to be nailed down. It's Rosh Hashanah, it's the Jewish year, 57, 47, and my, how time flies when you're having fun. And we are gonna have lots of fun this week because there's lots to talk about with fresh fruits and vegetables. As you can see by the Indian corn I'm holding up, we're having our Indian summer, and it's about time. And it's a great time of the year for eating fresh fruits, and vegetables, where we can say goodbye to some items this time of year. Fresh corn, just about finished up, green beans locally, just almost finished up. But there are some new products and some new things to talk about this week. OK, we talked about apples and pears. Excellent this week. Now, kiwi fruit coming in out of California, new crop, fall kiwi fruit, a very good buy this week, that highlights the fruit department as well as the apples and pears. In the vegetable department, well, what's going on? A lot of fall squash. Spaghetti squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, beets coming in right now, kale, if you've never tried kale, a nice alternative to lettuce or spinach, very good in salads, raw or sauteed, kale kale, the gang's all here. You know it's fall, leeks coming in, right now. Chanterelle mushrooms, we've had some rain, ha, some rain. Chantarelle mushrooms out of the woods, a gourmet delight, you can only get them in the Pacific Northwest, fresh, wonderful, try them with some meat sauteed. Excellent. Local tomatoes, just about finished up. So, some fall things coming on real strong right now, also potatoes, yams, yam and sweet potatoes. Papa used to say, I yam what I yamm. On a map, the gorge between Oregon and Washington is now divided into three categories of lands. In urban areas, there's no change. Inside the boundaries of cities like Hood River or Stevenson, local governments still write the rules. But outside the cities in areas like Skamania, some land is now designated national scenic areas. Those areas will be overseen by a 13-member Gorge commission. The commission will work in cooperation with the Forest Service and the states and counties devising a land use plan. And there is a third category called special management areas where control goes to the Forest Service, lands like this view area near Cape Horn. No new commercial or industrial development is allowed on special management areas. And no houses can be built here on any parcel less than 40 acres. In the special management areas, the Forest Service can acquire lands through scenic easements or through condemnation. While existing houses, farms and pastures are exempted, it's the condemnation provision that has many residents worried. The Gorge Bill will become law if the president signs it within 10 days. The process of setting up a working management system for the new national scenic area is expected to take years.
