Let's take a look over at the fruit department first. Valencia oranges nearing the end of the season. We're going to be into some navels soon. Look for higher prices on oranges this week, as high as $0.4549 a pound, as the orange market hasn't quite stabled out yet. Grapefruit coming in now out of Florida and Mexico, good quality. Prices will be coming down. Look for them about three, four for a dollar right now. Best buys this week over in the fruit department. Local apples still coming in good. Red delicious, golden delicious. New towns, a few Granny Smiths if you're lucky to find them. Very good prices. Pear is also a good price now, particularly Comise and D'Angio. The Comise is a French cooking pear. Very good for eating and for cooking. High price fruit item this week, bananas. Up over $0.40 a pound right now. Because there's no other soft fruit, the banana market is very unstable. Let's look over at the vegetable scene. Locally, not too much happening, maybe a little bit. Broccoli is the best buy locally, as low as 40 to 49 cents a pound. Very good quality, but it's going quick. Other good buys this week, California tomatoes. Perhaps the best by this week on the vegetable market, as low 30 to 40 cents a pounds. Also, California fuerte avocados. Unlike the haas, they don't have the flavor or the texture, but they are cheap. Three, four, even five for a dollar, depending on size. High priced items this week, eggplant out of California. Very high, as much as a dollar a piece. Quality is good, but the quantity is in short supply right now. And finally, today I'm going to tell you the difference between yams and sweet potatoes. These are yams. They're a squash. They're little better for baking, smoother texture. There'll be this golden orange on the inside. These are sweet potatoes, they're much paler. They're a little bit rougher texture. But baked, they're just equally as good. They're both running about 30 to 40 cents a pound. And in the words of Popeye and Terrence Potassium, I am what I am. For Eyewitness News, I'm Terrence potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70247/file/156191#t=2010.75,2138.5
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70247/file/156191/transcript/86264/annotation/82
Speaker 3: Of developed countries, going from somewhere about $2,500 to about $6,000.
