You must take care of your guns on a regular basis. I have a tendency to forget mine from one hunting season to the next. Couple of things that you should do and some things that should not do whenever you're taking care of you're guns. Some of the things that that you you should do. Always the first thing you should do is check your gun and make sure that the chamber is clear. Make sure that it's not loaded. Probably the second thing you should do, is always use a light grade of oil and wipe your guns down every time you handle them. If you show your guns to a friend, take the oil cloth, which can be a baby diaper or a piece of an old t-shirt and light grade of oil, and wipe the outside the gun down. Don't touch the metal parts of the gun with your hand after you've cleaned it. The salt and the perspiration on your hand causes your gun to rust. Some of the things you should not do is don't ever store your guns in a soft case. A soft case collects moisture and causes your guns to rust While you're cleaning your guns, you might relive a hunting trip last fall and that can be enjoyable besides taking care of your investment in your guns. Remember, always keep your safety on until you're sure. Here's what happened. Several weeks ago, a Portland officer attending a local narcotics school struck up a conversation with a man in a bar in the gateway area of Springfield. The man told the officer he could supply any kind of drug. The officer asked about buying cocaine, while he was referred to another man. After some long-distance calls between Eugene and Portland, a buy was arranged. Saturday night, the Portland officers came to town with $16,000 of flash money and went to this apartment at 2285 Augusta in the Laurel Hill area of Eugene. When they were shown two ounces of the real thing, that is chunks of high-grade uncut cocaine, they arrested Gary Charles Bray and Rick Allison. Those two were charged with class B felonies for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. The third man, who arrived later to try to make a buy, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine. All three were arraigned in Lane County Circuit Court on Monday morning. Bray posted a $5,000 bond and he was released. Police returned to Bray's apartment later on Saturday night with a search warrant and they found the rest of the two pounds of cocaine that are shown here. Observe, you see, I see people pick up melons, they shake them, they press them, they're doing all kinds of things with them, they don't know if they're ripe. Well, the easiest way to spot a ripe cantaloupe is to just look at it. And you can see this melon's got a lot of green in it. And you see, as the green fades and turns to beige, the melon ripens. So when you look for a melon, look for one that's got lot of beige color and no green in. Another way is to pick it up and smell the end of it. Now, if the melons are coming out of Mexico or California, they won't have quite that smell as they're picked very green as the melones that are picked locally. If they have a little give to them when you touch them, that's another way of telling if they're ripe. But just look, see, green, beige, beiges. Now I'm gonna cut this melon here and I'm going to show you just how ripe this melon is. See if I'm right or wrong. There you go, see the seeds are loose, the skin, nice color, nice meat, very ripe. This is a beautiful melon. So now you all know how to pick a ripe cantaloupe. Let's quickly look at the best vies this week. We're getting some beautiful lettuce of all kinds. Here's some red leaf. We're going green leaf, romaine, butter lettuce, all coming in locally, very inexpensive. In the fruit market locally, we're getting some wonderful strawberries coming in right now, as low as $0.40 a basket right now. If this weather doesn't change, we're going to have some real problems with the berries. But so far, the berries are still coming on good. Finally, out of Chicago comes my latest t-shirt, the Chicago Cub t- shirt. Cub fever, catch it and die.
