We have three of these machines installed here. And under the old process, it was necessary to run these out by hand. In other words, it were strictly a hand operation. A new method that we have here now, this man brings his tax statement in. The girl checks the check that he has accompanying with it. To see if the amounts are filled in correctly. And he has two statements here on this particular check, her account. Then she enters the account number from this statement into the machine. Now, this machine is connected with the computer system downstairs. And this is what she calls calling up the account. This account is called up, the amount is called And it is checked in against the tax statement to see that it has not been paid before. She finds that it had not been payed before. She enters the amount of the payment into the machine, the machine validates the tax statement. The tax statement then, the copy of it is returned to the tax payer and we keep one copy here in the office. This is kept for partial payments and for checks. Or in case that something might happen that the taxpayer might lose their statement, we would have a duplicate copy here for them. This is the beginning of an online validation for the tax statements. If we feel it will give the taxpayers of Lane County a big benefit in being more accurate by being able to process their returns more quickly than what has been done in the past and to keep more accurate records. In saving them money and so forth to eliminate duplicate payments and so forth that uh... There, I think we're going to continue to see acts of terrorism in these cities, Maybe an upswing on... The production improvement, I think, is the thing that members of the community will be interested in. We're moving the pageant finals to South Eugene High School. We feel that more people are going to be interested in seeing the pageants for its entertainment value, also because of the improved stage facilities there. This proposal would furnish, I'm convinced, much needed financial stability to our Oregon schools. Also, there is another provision in their proposal from the OEA that is totally in line with what I've been advocating for some years and really have been saying to you earlier today. And that is the proposal would provide that there can only be two school elections in any one year. But those elections would have to be set between the dates of April 1st and June 30th of each year, recognizing, and I do, of course, that this to election limitation is only feasible when each school district then has a tax base that would guarantee that you could have at least a minimum full school program in operation for the next year, and the OEA bill would do just exactly that. You know, throughout Oregon, and it's probably more true in Lane County than anywhere else, Our battle-scarred school districts need an adequate tax base. These tax bases are, in too many cases, outdated. And the yearly charade that begins in late spring and sometimes runs through four or five elections in a school district until late in the fall, that charade must cease. Under the proposal, districts could increase their tax base a minimum of 6% each year without a vote of the people. Any new program, any additional program they want. Would have to be approved under this proposal by a majority vote of the people in the school district. One, he's desperately searching for that silent majority and trying to rally it around the flag, see if he can't come up with a new wave of hawkism or a new way of support for an American victory in Vietnam, which I think is totally out of reach. And two, I think he's taken a definite strategy borrowed from Ronald Reagan to take the peace movement and tell it it is pointless, it is hopeless, and challenge it to stay peaceful. And he cut back in construction. And I have said ever since the announcement that it'll be an overkill. And we're up to 7% and 8% on unemployment right now. And as far as construction is concerned, it's just the beginning of what's going to happen. By the end of winter, I think we'll see a higher unemployment rate.
