Authorities say this is the biggest marijuana raid in Oregon in almost 10 years. Officials have burned over 13,000 pounds of the marijuana with the rest to be used for evidence. At the scene, police arrested nine men, eight from California and one from Oregon, 57-year-old Richard Thomas of Coquille. In U.S. District Court in Eugene, they were charged with smuggling and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. If convicted, the defendants could be sentenced up to life in prison with a minimum term of 10 years without parole. The suspects will be in custody without bail pending a hearing scheduled for Friday.
