After two months of studying vegetation control solutions in other Western states, commissioners Jerry Rust and Ellie Dumdye presented a set of recommendations on Tuesday for Lane County's roadsides. Their report suggests hiring a special consultant with horticultural expertise to aid county staff in making a weed management program work. The study also recommends taking an inventory of all roadside plants and forming a citizen's advisory committee. When the matter was put to a vote, the board approved the overall report, as well as the idea of a biology expert to head the program. But for cost reasons, commissioners decided this expert should work for the county, not as an independent consultant.
