It's flea control in a pill form. The animal eats it and the repelling chemicals are released in the dog's or cat's body. But some people want more natural choices for their pets. No insecticides nor chemicals. Eugene veterinarian Richard Pitcairn provides these non-toxic pest control suggestions. For bedding, place a towel, sheet or blanket over your pet's bed and wash it once a week in hot water. Extreme heat will kill all stages of the flea from egg to adult. For indoor floors, vacuum up some flea powder, a few mothballs or cotton balls sprayed with flea insecticide, then vacuum. The products kill the fleas. Doing this in two-week intervals will keep you on top of the new flea hatches. And for your pet, a fine-tooth flea comb for grooming will trap fleas in the comb's teeth. Pull the black flea dirt off and drown it in a bowl of hot, soapy water. Fresh garlic and brewer's yeast put in your pet's food helps about 25% of animals repel fleas A few other tips include using non-toxic flea shampoos, sprays and powders.
