I think cab's clear. The canopy was locked, so the truck had to be winched out of the water before it could be checked. Police found keys in the ignition and a briefcase. Identification inside showed the owner to be Gary Mulkey of Junction City. Police tried, but couldn't reach him by phone. The Eugene water rescue team won't be operational until the first of the year, so they're waiting for Sheriff's Department divers to arrive so they can search the pond and see if anyone is there. They waited about an hour before the Sheriff's volunteer rescue team showed up. Mulkey's family arrived a few minutes before the diver began his search. And then think about when the party's going to end, stop serving alcohol. What is the host responsibility for that person? The host responsibility in a private party is almost the same as the tavern owner or the commercial establishment. So that as the dispenser of alcohol and the private host or hostess has been called the dispensers of alcohol, there could be criminal penalties. But the biggest problem is that there could be civil liability for damages if, for example, there were an automobile accident. Someone who you think shouldn't drive home, how are you going to handle that? And it may be besides a drink. And that's just making sure it's a good social kind of evening. And then have some food. Food doesn't keep people sober, but having food in you does help slow down how the body absorbs the alcohol. And I think if people eat, they may not drink as much. So have some food available. Make sure you have non-alcohol drinks just as readily available as the alcohol drinks. Sometimes they're kind of stuck somewhere else. There's no reason why non-alkohol drinks can't be fun and good and look just as good as the alcohol drinks, and I think, if it's a party where somebody's going to be serving drinks as a bartender kind of thing, make sure you want a responsible bartender. You want the good old Joe that gives everybody a double. You want a bartend that's going one. You know, give them an ordinary size drink, not a double, and not really push drinks.
