It has to do the way in which information is handled in this country. And what we're getting are very large private collections of data on people that various companies, credit bureaus, insurance records, and so forth have, which are secret. And McCarthy's proposal is that the computer can solve this problem by legislation which establishes a national data bank, makes it a crime for private people to collect large files of information about other people and have these secret, and requires that anybody who uses the federal data bank must give his authorization, that if a person's files are looked at by somebody There must be a record of who did it and what his authorization was. And that if somebody uses your files for unauthorized purpose, you can sue him. So by a very simple, uniform set of legislation, we can protect people from the very dangerous, cancerous data structures that are growing up now. It certainly could happen someday. Nobody is seriously working on that now. But as the art develops, that certainly will become a possibility. By and by, as they develop better hands and eyes so the computer can see and do things, things like straightening up a room becomes a very definite possibility. Also depends on making the equipment inexpensive enough. And I feel it has not reached its potential at this time. And I'm most anxious to be elected commissioner of this county because I feel that I can help the citizens knowing that the citizens in this county need property tax relief and many indigenous. Citizens who are living on county welfare now need a chance for gainful employment. Although it's important to this county, the air pollution and water pollution, but I feel that it's became an issue, which is perhaps a smoke screen in some cases to overlook the real needs for the county. And I am no expert in pollution. I think there's few experts in the United States in it, but yet I am very much concerned with it. But the reason that I don't put an emphasis on it is because there's matters first here that must be taken care of that's part of the ecology or part of environmental circumstances of man. And I'm personally very grateful for that apparent stand that came forth from that poll. The National Forest Timber Conservation and Management Act is still alive in the Senate. And it's not permanently dead in the House of Representatives. The action yesterday merely defeated the rule. There has been no careful consideration by the body itself of the measure. It has never been opened up for debate on the floor of the House. All we had yesterday was an hour of debate on the rule as to whether or not the House at this time ought to take it up and consider it. So it's my feeling that the bill is in limbo at the present time, Henny, and we'll have to see where it goes from here. These men are not giving it a brush off. Now they're dealing not from having walked into the store and seeing that the price of butter has risen, but they're dealing with a multitude of statistics that are pouring through which are national averages and they're deeply concerned about this. They're not being blasé when they say it's cooling off. They are deeply troubled and I talked for some time with McCracken the last time about what can you do about our district because we're facing a near recession at the present time.
