Our travels remind us we are less than a speck in the universe. It has been a year of tremendous discovery in the new frontier. Voyager traveled 2 billion miles in 8 and 1 half years. It capped off pictures of Jupiter and Saturn with Uranus. Voyager's pictures told scientists more in a day than has been learned since Uranus was discovered 200 years ago. Through Voyager, we found 10 new rings, a total of 15 moons that are circling the planet. But for every answer came a new puzzle. The planet's magnetic field challenges scientists' knowledge of the subject. Its magnetic field tilts at a 55 degree angle from its axis. That contradicts everything we know about the Earth's magnetic fields. It gave us a 20th century version of the lesson Christopher Columbus learned about the earth.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71071/file/157022#t=27.22,78.08
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71071/file/157022/transcript/88378/annotation/2
Speaker 2: And the assumption has always been that, in fact, the field on the Earth is either this way or this way and not in between.
