There's a lot of local, not local, there's a lot of local produce coming in right now, particularly the vegetable market, and the prices are good. Let's take a look. Beautiful week for a salad, head lettuce, romaine, green leaf, butter lettuce, even some local head lettuce coming in now. Prices range from about 30 to 50 cents a head. Very good quality. What else? Radishes, green onions, yellow squash, and zucchini, and peas out of Washington. Very, very good quality right now, running about 40 to 60 cents a pound. Also, local spinach running about 30 to 50 cents a head. Local cauliflower, a little higher price, but beautiful, beautiful heads of snow white cauliflower. What's high price this week in the vegetable market? Avocados, they're up a little bit out of California. Tomatoes and green peppers, also out of California. Tomatoes running about a dollar a pound. Green peppers running about a dollar and a half a pound. So they are a little spendy right now. Swinging over to the fruit market. A lot of things happening, particularly in California. Grapes, plums, peaches, apricots, nectarines, all coming in right now out of California. All very, very good quality. Prices are tending a little high. They are slowly beginning to drop. Locally, bing cherry crop is is beginning. Now we're going to see higher prices on cherries and local peaches this year because the fruit didn't set very well on the trees, and so we're going to have less of a crop, means higher prices. Best buys in the fruit department this week, melons of all kinds, honeydews, cantaloupes, watermelons, cantaloupes running about 30 to 50 cents a pound, watermelons running 10 to 19 cents a pound. Very, very good buys. I wonder if ET likes to eat a lot of fruit. If he does, he's in for a good week. Hope you are too. Four dollar admissions are in Eugene to stay, and it's not too hard to see why. Overhead is up at most theaters, along with the fees, chains have to cough up to get the first-run summer blockbusters. It's reported luxury theaters bid $150,000 for a 20-week run of the extra-terrestrial. In the past, Movie House has made up the difference between the bid and the gate at concession stands. But with Capital Matters where they are, it's a gamble to bet you'll sell enough popcorn to keep a theater and a profit. Hence a hike in admissions at the National, McDonald, Springfield Cinemas, and Cinema World. The increased tickets came when Star Trek 2 opened at Cinema World. It was a good test crowd for the managers. Trekkies are not easily deterred. But now the rush has eased a bit, and with other movies coming to town, other movie goers are asking if the flicks are even worth $4. Sorry, folks, the questions moot.
