Once again this week I get to be the bearer of glad tidings as I've got good news to report about the fresh produce market this week. Prices are good, quality is excellent. Over in the fruit department, let's talk about some local things. Red Haven peaches, peak of the season right now for the next week or so, excellent quality peaches coming in running about 49 to 79 cents a pound. Also, nectarines out of Washington and coming in out of Oregon, right about the same price. The nectarines look to be a was smaller. Blueberries, right in the smack dab middle of blueberry season. Good year for blueberries this year because of all the dry weather. Blueberries running right around a dollar a basket or so. Out of Hermiston, Oregon, new crop of watermelons coming in. Now don't expect these watermelones to be as big or as red as the California melons, but do expect them to be just as sweet, running about 10 to 15 cents a pound. Very good right now. Over in the vegetable department, everything is Terrific. Last week. Like John Fisher talked about how fast you want to cook corn, taking the pot right out to the field. Well, the reason that we do that is because corn has a lot of sugar in it. That sugar turns to starch right after the corn is picked. So as soon as that corn gets picked, that sugar starts to turn to starch and is not nearly as sweet. That's why you want cook corn very quickly. And the corn that you'll be cooking quickly this week is the Golden Jubilee, running four to seven years for a dollar. Very good. Other things coming in locally. Like all kinds of lettuce. Very good byes, the weather is starting to take its toll, however, this hot weather is going to burn out some of the lettuce. Carrots are good, tomatoes, we're getting lots of ripe tomatoes, that's a switch for this year in Eugene, peppers of all kind, zucchini and squash of all kinds, and that brings us to this week's vegetable oddity of the week. Here we have the famous Siamese yellow squash, and as the old saying goes, breaking these up would certainly be hard to do. Anyways. Enjoy lots of fresh fruits and vegetables this week. For eyewitness news, I'm Terry Potassiam.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71011/file/156962#t=408.78,530.27
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/71011/file/156962/transcript/88370/annotation/24
Speaker 10: When they tell me who they are and what they did, then I remember all about them. Then when Steve Perry and I sang Don't Fight It, the lyricist on that song was Dean Pitchford. Dean and I met at that time. And Dean was working on a movie he was writing called Footloose. So I read the script and I liked what I read, so I wrote a couple of tunes and he and I put the two tunes together, one of which turned out to be the song Footloose and the other was a song called I'm Free. And then because of the success of Footloos. I went on to do, I was asked to do flash dance actually and I wrote a song for flash dance but I killed it because when I fell off the stage in Salt Lake City I broke some ribs and it didn't work out that I could finish the tune so I pulled the song from the soundtrack but that's when I met Bruckheimer and Simpson who produced, this is a long story, who produced Top Gun.
