This year, the budget calls for an additional $395,000 from the city, and Reynolds would like to see it as a straight subsidy from revenue sharing funds rather than a loan. In June, the City Council has the option to write off the first two years' loans, making them direct subsidies, and then approve direct funds for the new fiscal year. This is some new age 1984 running gear in case you're running to the store to buy some fruits and vegetables. And if you are running to the store, better bring lots of money this week or a credit card or whatever, because fruit and vegetable prices this week continue to escalate. Over in the vegetable department, a lot of high price stuff. Zucchini out of Mexico, well over a dollar a pound. Tomatoes out of Florida and Mexico, hovering right about a dollar a pound. Celery and cauliflower, both out of California, running a dollar a stock and or ahead and up. Green onions, radishes, parsley, all on the high side. Cabbage, normally 19, 29 cents a pound, as high as 49 cents a pound. So we're seeing a lot of higher prices on vegetables out of California, Mexico, Texas, and Florida. Basically, you know why? Bad weather. What's a good buy? Vegetable market this week. The best buy singly probably broccoli at 59, 69 cents a pound. It is affordable this week. So higher prices on the vegetables. Over in the fruit department, let's talk about citrus for a minute. Orange is very good right now. Naval oranges, all different prices you can pay for naval oranges, but I suggest you stick with a medium sized naval orange. You get into a large naval orange, you're gonna find a very, very thick skin. So a medium sized naval orange will be a better, better naval orange, a little bit more money. Texas grapefruit, small and large coming in. There are a few Indian River grapefruit out of Florida on the market, but they're running almost a dollar apiece, so stick with the Texas grapefruit right now. They are excellent. And finally, another new citrus item. More tangerines, more tangellos. Now we're into the miniola tangellos. Not to be confused with the Micciola tangellos. And you can identify them. They have a little nipple on the end. And you cut them and you see that they're very thin skinned. And they only have one or two seeds if they have any. And they're very, very sweet, similar to an orange, only a little bit more tangerine-y taste. So the miniola tangellos, they run about 49 to 69 cents a pound. Very, very good right now. So bring lots of money when you go shopping this week for eyewitness news. I'm Terry Potashium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70684/file/156630#t=456.92,570.98
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70684/file/156630/transcript/87553/annotation/25
Speaker 12: I travel on eighth street and I travel on fifth street. I really feel my efforts and skills and experience can best be given to the people who are here. I looked at polls, and so if we're dealing with a limited amount of resources and we don't want to go out for another tax levy, or we can't, because becoming the case, I think that it's essential that we continue to be choosing to spend for the city budget. Because of all those factors, it may be forced to split up because of the economic crisis in this community and indeed in the Pacific Northwest. There has not been the kind of upturn in the economy here that there has been in other parts of the country, I presume. Subsequent consequently, we have to continue with a very strong and fair-handed program of job creation. As a city, we have a responsibility to work with both the private sector and with other public agencies to bring first an emphasis on new jobs in small local businesses and second in attracting new outside industries for the locally unemployed. I feel good about the business loan fund which the city has started. I think it needs some adjustments to make more people eligible and we'll be doing that in the near future. I'm proud of the Buy Oregon program. And in my second term, I look forward to putting together a local industrial revenue bond program which will help people in in expanding existing businesses and be just another tool that we have to offer.
