If you look at the back of a seed pack, you'll usually see that it says, wait until the soil has warmed before you put the seeds into the ground. It really doesn't care about the air temperature. So one or two warm days is not enough to have warmed that soil up. Couple of other things you would want to watch out for, too, if you've already put some vegetables in and you usually use a mulch around them, like I do. Wait again for the soil to warm up before you start mulching around your plants. Otherwise, they'll still be sitting in May soil by the time July rolls around. Mulch not only holds in the water, it does quite a job of holding the heat out also. We interrupt your regularly scheduled garden report to bring you this special garden bulletin. Rhododendrons and azaleas around the area are as beautiful as they have been in at least a decade. We urge you to abandon your regular garden chores long enough to go to Hendricks Park or other Rhododentron and azalia areas to observe this once in a lifetime beautiful display. This has been a KEZI Garden Bulletin. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Garden Report. Another crop that you normally should have put in back in October or November. But me, you've either been forgotten because you ran out of time, or because the flood costs and problems would be your garlic. Traditionally, you put it in, as I mentioned, in the fall.
