Some of you may or may not remember the chain of Robert Hall discount clothing stores. Now I mention Robert Hall for two reasons. One, I almost became a manager of a Robert Hall clothing store many years ago. And secondly, they had a jingle, and their jingle is quite applicable to this week's fresh fruit and vegetable report. Their jingle went something like this. When the values go up, up, and the prices go down, down, down. That's what we've got right now. We've got some great values and some good quality produce this week. Over in the vegetable department, told you last week about lettuce. Well, leaf lettuce coming in locally. Red leaf, green leaf, romaine, butter. All the lettuce is very reasonably priced, excellent quality. Head lettuce, a little bit more expensive. Broccoli, cauliflower in California, again. On all salad greens, very reasonably priced and very good quality. Now, end of the season for a local asparagus, so if you've been looking for asparagus this is about the last week or two for it. Around 79 to 99 cents a pound under a dollar is still a good value for asparagus. Even tomatoes out of Florida and California are an excellent buy. 59, 69 cents a pound depending on size. Over in the fruit department, much more good news, which means more of the same. Grapes out of California. Seedless red flame and green seedless grapes running about a dollar a pound. Tree fruits starting to come down in price. Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, all coming in around a dollar pound, and quality continues to improve, particularly with the nectarines and the plums. Now the best buys out of California this week are melons. Watermelons are good, honeydews are better, and the best by far are cantaloupes. Six-tweet cantaloupe out of California right now running as low at 39 cents a pound. An excellent value. Finally, the local strawberry season, which we've long awaited for, is finally right here. This weekend and next week will probably be some of the best times to go get the fresh local strawberries. And it looks like because of the dry weather that we've been having and the not-too-hot weather, we're going to have a great year for strawberries. So all in all... There are great values, good prices, and excellent quality, so it's a good week to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. For Eyewitness News, I'm Terry Potassium.
text/plain
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70977/file/156928#t=115.34,239.09
https://uoregon.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1635/collection_resources/70977/file/156928/transcript/90027/annotation/7
Speaker 4: Come on, get your hands up, put them behind your head.
