The Japanese half of this mission now behind us. According to Governor Atiya, the mission in Japan was, quote, absolutely incredibly, sensationally successful. A little strong, perhaps, but the governor has staked his political reputation on the repeal of the unitary tax and the flow of Japanese investors that were generated. So far he scored two Fujitsu plants for Portland and clear indications other high-tech companies will follow. Over the weekend in Kyoto, we were there when ATA and the governor of Oklahoma had a chance meeting. ATIA asked, how's it going? The sooner governor, George Nye, replied, Oh well, you're stealing everything in sight. In Kyoto, we've learned the governor and his recruiters called on Kia Cera, the high-tech ceramics company that now participates in the space shuttle. Kiacera is a rapidly growing company that could add a whole new dimension to Oregon's high-tech industry. The party also was a guest of honor at Japan's largest restaurant, the Carnival in Osaka. The carnival serves more than 20,000 customers each week and features Oregon Lamb barbecued right at your table. On another front, the Oregon Tourism Delegation claims six hundred thousand Japanese were exposed to a street display over the weekend, touting the wonders of an Oregon vacation. That street scene was part of the promotion for the Japanese TV series from Oregon with Love. Unfortunately, delegates from Eugene and Springfield have been conspicuously absent as the trade and tourism mission hits the jackpot here in Japan.
